FREEPORT, Bahamas –  The call went out earlier this year for submissions for local filmmakers interested in participating in the FLIFF On Location: Grand Bahama Island film festival to take place from
October 29th through November 3rd at the Pelican Bay Hotel's Canal House in Freeport.

Bahamian films were received for submission in three categories, Open, High School and College; and at this time the organizers are pleased to announce the films to be featured in the Bahamian Open Category:  AFFLICTION directed by Matthew Kelly; CRAVE directed by Bruce Russell;  ERIC & COLETTA directed by Conrad Knowles; FRAPPER AVEC MOUR directed by Nathaniel Lewis; MERCANTILE directed by Basil Lewis; MUSIC OF LIFE directed by David Hanna; PASSAGE directed by Kareem Mortimer; SOMETHING IN THE WATER directed by Marion Janello; WHEN WE MEET directed by Tyler Johnston; and WOMANISH WAY directed by Marion Bethel.

This year's open category lineup increases to ten films, from only four last year. Filmmakers will be on hand for screenings and a question and answer period after each film. All the Bahamian films will be screen on Saturday, November 3rd starting at 5pm at the Canal House.

Here's more information on these films:

AFFLICTION directed by Matthew Kelly, 44 min.  Noah and Sidney have rescued Emily, while fever-induced madness has crippled Nassau. Noah intends to stay alive and out of quarantine, but can he make it against doubt, a disease no-one understands, its crazed, pain riddled victims, and especially Sidney's own selfish madness?  Screening at 6:25PM, Saturday, November 2nd.

CRAVE directed by Bruce Russell. 38 min
This short film follows the lives of 5 friends who craved for success but their lives were changed because of decisions they made based on those cravings. This film takes you on a journey back to the path that leads to true success, and how important it is to not turn your crave for success into selfish gain.

Screening at 5:30PM, Saturday, November 2nd. 

ERIC & COLETTA directed by Conrad Knowles. 60 min
Eric and Coletta is the story of a girl who asks to stay with a guy for one night and after that night she becomes a psycho and sends his life into a downward spiral.
Screening at 9:00PM, Friday, November 1st.

FRAPPER AVEC MOUR
(Hit With Love) directed by Nathaniel Lewis. 11 min
An assassin discovers her latest hit is her mob boss ex-husband.
Screening at 7:00PM, Friday, November 1st.

MERCANTILE directed by Basil Lewis. 18:39 min
The drug trade just got more dangerous with the restructuring amongst its ranks. Two highly trained international assassins will work for the highest bidder.
Screening at 7:55PM, Friday, November 1st.

MUSIC OF LIFE directed by David Hanna. 5:58 min
Music Video: Everyday warfare between heaven and hell on earth. An agent of darkness tries to divert God's message to a mortal and replace the truth with a lie. Barz Noble, plays the angel of life, who escapes capture and races to restore the message of truth to a young woman on her way the church.
Screening at 7:35PM, Friday, November 1st.

PASSAGE directed by Kareem Mortimer. (
English & Creole) 15 min
A twenty-year-old Haitian woman, Sandrine and her thirteen year old brother Etienne are being transported from Haiti to the Bahamas in the hold of a dilapidated wooden vessel filled with several other immigrants in search of a better life. When her brother takes ill, she must use her smarts and strength to avoid him being thrown off the boat and save his life.
Screening at 8:30PM, Friday, November 1st.

Gina Rodgers-Sealy and Tracy Ann Percall will also be screening at FLIFF. Gina Sealy is the director of the sports documentary, "Trailblazer: The Mychal Thompson" Story; and TAP produces and co-directed the short film, "Roses"


ROSES directed by Tracy Ann Perpall.  A story that is far more common than people may think. It is the story of a young woman who is faced with the decision of choosing the person she believes to be the love of her life or choosing...herself. Screening at 6:15pm on Saturday, November 2nd.


TRAILBLAZER: THE MYCHAL THOMPSON STORY directed by Gina Rodgers-Sealy. When Mychal “Sweet Bells” Thompson started playing organized basketball at the age of 16 in his native Bahamas, he never dreamed he would become the number one draft pick in the 1978 NBA draft. Thompson is forever remembered as the first non-America number one pick in the NBA and a two-time champion with the Los Angeles Lakers. This is his story. Screening at 8:45pm on Saturday, November 2nd.

WHEN WE MEET directed by Tyler Johnston. 2:44 min
A short experimental film which assembles diverse poetic moments in semi native dream sequence.
Screening at 7:25PM, Friday, November 1st.

WOMANISH WAY directed by Marion Bethel. 73 min
This film narrates the story of the Women's Suffrage Movement in The Bahamas, 1948 - 1962. It highlights the 5 leaders of the Movement and the social obstacles they faced in obtaining the suffrage.
Screening at 7:15PM, Saturday, November 2nd.

Hosted at the Canal House, Pelican Bay Hotel, from October 31st to November 3rd , FLIFF on Location will also feature international films, outdoor screenings, an annual honouree (previously Dennis Haysbert and Giancarlo Esposito), film specialist workshops, an island locations familiarization tour for visiting filmmakers, and an awards and wrap party at the Canal House, Pelican Bay Hotel.

Ticket prices are Day Pass $7.00; All Movies $10.00 and All Access Pass (movies, workshops, wrap party), $20.00   and can be purchased at the Pelican Bay Hotel.  All films will be screened at Canal House, Pelican Bay except for the opening night film, SAMMY 2: ESCAPE FROM PARADISE which will be screened free of charge under the stars at Taino Beach on opening night, Thursday, October 31st.
