Yesterday, Monday 20th February, 2012 at 9:00am, students at Freeport Primary School hosted a team of officers from the Police Traffic Division during a ‘Special Assembly’.
This assembly is the first of many to be held in the Freeport area to educate students and teachers alike on Road Safety Rules and Regulations to assist in their safety travel on the streets OF Grand Bahama. Some of the tips included:
• Proper use of side walks.
• Always walking to face oncoming traffic on the side of the road.
• Stop before crossing the street.
• Look left, look right and look left and right again to ensure no vehicular traffic is near.
• Never accept a ride, monies or gifts from strangers.
• Reasons for wearing seat belts and why children under 12 must sit in the back seat.
The students displayed great enthusiasm when one of the traffic cops rode in on his motor-bike and they were very attentive when he spoke to them about his job as a cyclist and he allowed one lucky student to have a seat on the bike and turn on sirens and emergency lights.
