Grand Bahama house breaking suspects arrested and arraigned

Freeport, Grand Bahama - In keeping with the Commissioner of Police 2015
Policing Plans, “The prevention and detection of crime”, police in
Grand Bahama dismantle a house breaking ring, subsequently, arresting
and charging five (5) Bahamian male residents of Freeport for numerous
reported house breaking and stealing related matters.
According to police reports sometime between Wednesday 9th September
2015 and Thursday 29th October 2015 several house breakings and stealing
related matters occurred within the residential areas of Freeport,
Grand Bahama.
As a result of intense investigation and collaboration Officers from the
Eastern and Central Divisions, Grand Bahama arrested three (3) adult
male suspects and two (2) juvenile male suspects in connection with
these matters.
Subsequently, they were charged with seventeen (17) criminal matters,
which included one (1) Burglary, twelve (12) House Breakings, one (1)
Stolen Vehicle, two (2) Stealing and one (1) Deceit of a Public Officer.

On Tuesday 3rd November 2015 at approximately 2:00pm, the quartet was
arraigned before the Magistrate Charlton Smith, Magistrate Court #2 and
Magistrate Rengin Johnson, Court #3, Freeport for these matters.
• James Cunningham, 29 years of Freeport pleaded guilty House
Breaking and was sentenced to a total of five (5) months at the Bahamas
Department of Corrections, Providence.
• John Davis, 18 years of Freeport pleaded to House Breaking and
was sentenced to a total of eight (8) months at the Bahamas Department
of Corrections, New Providence.
• Kendrick Sears, 20 years of Freeport pleaded not guilty to all
charges and was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrections, New
Providence until 18/2/2016 when a trial is set to begin.
• The two juvenile males’ matters were adjourned until the
5/11/15 to appear before the Juvenile Panel, Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Police are reminding members of the public that it is an offence to
purchase stolen property, punishable under Sections 148 & 358 of the
Penal Code of The Bahamas and subject to conviction of prison time or a
fine.
Additionally, we are encouraging members of the public who may have
information of persons committing crime to call at 911, 919 or your
local police station, you may do so anonymously
