Monday Court Arraignments in Grand Bahama

Freeport, Bahamas - Police in Grand Bahama hauled (8) persons before the Freeport and Eight Mile Rock Magistrate Court on a number of serious charges on Monday 25th July 2016.

Meshack Newton age 32 years of West End, Desiree Wilson age 26 years of #39 Clarke Avenue, Robert Taylor age 37 years of #39 Clarke Avenue, Deangelo Wilson age 30 years of no fixed address, Ashley Ramsey age 24 years of #39 Clarke Avenue and Dominique Whyms age 37 years of Hanna Hill, Eight Mile Rock were all arraigned before Magistrate Charlton Smith in Magistrate Court #2 in Freeport for Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.

Meshack Newton pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to (2) years for Possession of a Firearm and (1) year for Possession of Ammunition to run consecutively. The other co-accuse charges were withdrawn.

This is in connection with a matter reported on Tuesday 19th July 2016.

Steven Cordero Hinzie age 29 years of #8 Clarke Avenue and Meshack Newton age 32 years of West End were both arraigned before Magistrate Gwendolyn Claude at the Magistrate Court in Eight Mile Rock on Armed Robbery charge. They were not required to plea and the matter was adjourned to the 3rd November2016 for a preliminary inquiry. They were remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until trial.

Gregory Darling age 24 years of North Bahamia was arraigned before Magistrate Rengin Johnson in Magistrate Court #3 on the charge of Assault with a deadly weapon, he pleaded not guilty and the matter was adjourned to the 25th November 2016 for trial. He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

Police are also urging anyone who may have any information regarding any crime, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at328-TIPS (8477)
