Police involved shooting incident

Freeport, Bahamas - Police in Grand Bahama are investigating a shooting incident that has left a male dead.

Reports are that on Tuesday 5th September 2017 shortly before 8:00pm, police were called to the Pinders Point area where reports of a male brandishing a machete. Officers quickly responded and made several unsuccessful attempts to disarm the male. In the process the male inflicted injuries to himself and threatened other family members with the machete. Officers made further attempts to disarm the male, who refused and charged at the officers injuring one of them with the machete, officers being in fear of their lives discharged their police service firearm fatally injuring the male who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are actively investigating this matter.

Dangerous drug arrest

Reports are that on Tuesday 5th September 2017 shortly after 3:00pm, Officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit acting on information proceeded to a bushy area in Coral Gardens, where officers discovered a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana. The estimated street value of the drugs is four thousand dollars.
Police are actively investigating this matter.

Police are appealing to the public to share information on any illegal/suspicious activities in their communities, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, members of the public are urged to anonymously contact the police at 919 or crime stoppers at 328-tips (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands)
