Girl Power was the central theme at the aptly named conference designed to empower and inspire young women on Grand Bahama Island.  The half day conclave, which coincided with the National observance of Women’s Week in the Bahamas was open to 12th grade girls across the island, giving them access to some of the best and brightest female minds the country has to offer.

Freeport, Grand Bahama - The Miss Bahamas Teenager Organization in conjunction with The TOCU Agency will host a two-day boutique pageant for young ladies ages 13-18 on Friday December 1st, 6pm until 8pm and Saturday December 2nd, 9am until noon at Mind Body Fitness Centre in the Circle Mall to select a representative from Grand Bahama for the Miss Bahamas Teenager Pageant in New Providence. Interested young ladies will be interviewed one on one on the day of their choice and at the conclusion one person will be chosen as Miss Grand Bahama Teenager to compete in the national pageant on August 12th, 2018.

Solomon’s shoppers in Grand Bahama will be inspired to live healthier lifestyles thanks to a new Nutritionist-On-Duty program launched in stores this month.  Local health and wellness advisor, Tarentee “Coach T” Laing will offer tips during weekly sessions focused on incorporating proper nutrition, diet and exercise into daily routines.

Coach T, Managing Nutrition Advisor and Fitness Professional at the Cardio Blast Experience, will hold information-packed sessions lasting two hours. Like many Bahamian events the 2017 Grand Bahama Technology Summit began with a prayer and ended with a party. In between a plan started to emerge for the revitalization of Grand Bahama as a hub for technology and innovation. Presentations from leaders from business, government, and academia, along with Bahamians working for high tech companies in the US, were both pragmatic and inspirational.

It’s clear that the path forward will not be easy. Speakers agreed on the need for improving the ease with which foreign and local investors can start businesses in the Bahamas (including streamlining the process for obtaining licenses and work permits)...

The Bahamas Telecommunications Company flocked to the Port Lucaya Marketplace along with residents and businesses on Grand Bahama Island to celebrate the return of a "Taste of Port Lucaya” last Friday, the first event to take place since the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.  BTC Brand Ambassadors, DMAC, and Stilleete put on stellar performances for the event which was held under the auspices of Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis joining local residents who turned out in droves for the event. This plan specifically speaks to the physical securing of all PHA facilities inclusive of hospitals and clinics, the pending closure of all out-patient and specialty clinics, the suspension of elective surgeries, cessation of visiting hours, and the management of emergency service operations during the storm.

Freeport, Grand Bahama (July 26, 2017) – Vincent R. Burton, MBBS, FRCA, has been appointed President of Okyanos Center for Regenerative Medicine, which is licensed by the Bahamas’ National Stem Cell Ethics Committee (NSCEC).

Dr. Burton received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) from the University of the West Indies. He went on to complete residency training in the United Kingdom at Queen’s Hospital of Staffordshire, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital as well as Cambridge University’s Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) and has served as Chief Anesthesiologist at Okyanos since the center opened in 2014.

Prior to Okyanos, Dr. Burton served as House Officer at the Rand Memorial and Princess Margaret Hospitals in Nassau. He later became Senior House Officer at the Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport and presently maintains his role as Consultant Anesthesiologist. Dr. Burton is a thought leader...
