The Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBSY) is looking for help from the Grand Bahama public for information leading to the return of 3 propeller fairwater cones made of Brass or Bronze material. Each of these items weighs more than 1,000lbs (pictures attached) and were recently stolen from the yard. Speaking to the media today Kendrick Knowles, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Manager at the GB Shipyard expressed his deep concern about the direct impact that these thefts will have on their business. Knowles noted that the "domino affect of these thefts could hurt the company’s future business growth and that will directly impact the economy of Grand Bahama." He urged persons who have any information or tips about these items to contact the Royal Bahamas Police force in Grand Bahama, commercial crimes unit 350-3099. Freeport, Bahamas - The Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited is looking for help from the Grand Bahama public for information leading to the return of 3 propeller fairwater cones made of Brass or Bronze material. Each of these items weighs more than 1,000lbs (pictures attached) and were recently stolen from the yard.

The shipyard has been experiencing thefts over the past year and has been actively investigating these incidents along with the Grand Bahama Police Force.  Solving this latest theft is particularly urgent as the items that have been stolen belong to their customers, one of which is docking and reinstalling the propulsion gear this week. Without this piece the shipyard will be unable to complete the work.

The Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited is offering a reward of $50,000 to the individual that comes forward with information leading to the recovery of the fairwaters cones, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. All information should be directed to the Central Police Station as the shipyard are working closely with the authority’s to solve this case.

The Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited is a Bahamian Company and is dedicated to the employment and advancement of Bahamians. The company is directly responsible for 300 Bahamian family incomes.  The shipyard also employs over 100 subcontractors and indirectly supports many local companies including: hotels, car rentals, property rentals, utility companies, cable services, restaurants, supermarkets, etc. The GB Shipyard customers spend millions of dollars per year in Grand Bahama and the last few years the company has been able to increase this business with much success.

The Management and staff of the shipyard are deeply concerned about the direct impact that these thefts will have on their business. According to management their customers will not trust that their goods will be safe and they simply will not return or recommend the GB Shipyard. The marine industry is a very small industry and any news of failure will hinder the company’s progress and will directly affect the economy of Grand Bahama.

The Grand Bahama Shipyard encourages all citizens and residents to help the police recover these items and help the company continue to grow the ship repair business here in The Bahamas.

Any information or tips about these items should be called into the Royal Bahamas Police force in Grand Bahama, commercial crimes unit 350-3099.
