Grand Bahama Island - On September 9, 2015, the management of Svitzer Corporation will hold an official commissioning ceremony for two new tugboats: the Svitzer Yuma and the Svitzer Freeport. A third tugboat, the Svitzer Hanne, has recently been refurbished.

The ceremony will be taking place from 10am to noon at the Freeport Harbor, Berth 6 and 7. A cocktail reception will take place immediately after the christening of the tugboats.

We welcome distinguished guests from the worldwide management team of Svitzer, as well as, a host of distinguished Government officials, andlocal business partners to celebrate this milestone occasion.

“When Svitzer came to Freeport, we made a long term commitment. Our commitment was a promise we made to the authorities and our customers that we would improve the safety of the harbor and improve the efficiency of getting into and out of the harbor,” said Leonardo Ferrisi, country manager of Svitzer Bahamas.

“Last year, we inaugurated a simulator here on the island to demonstrate our interest in making Freeport an important training center. On that same day, we promised we would upgrade our fleet with new and powerful equipment. Our two new tugboats, the Svitzer Freeport and Svitzer Yuma, show that we kept our promise and stand by our goals,” he said.

Svitzer’s new tugboats come from Damen Shipyards Changde, a renowned Chinese shipyard.
