Dozens of SME owners participated in the Direct Assistance Grant Scheme workshop, recently offered by CEDA in partnership with GBPA and in collaboration with GB Chamber of Commerce and BAIC. The workshop focused on assisting small businesses to apply for Grant Funding, made available through funds provided to CEDA from the European Union.

Grand Bahama – Recently, Executives of The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA), announced another partnership project in collaboration with Caribbean Export and Development Agency (CEDA), targeted at building competitiveness, productivity and profitability amongst Licencees of its Small/Medium Enterprises (SME), sector.

Ian Rolle, GBPA President explained that GBPA, in partnership with CEDA, and with the support of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) and the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation (BAIC), will offer the ProNet Business Management Training Series, free of charge to qualifying SME Licencees.

ProNet Business Training is a programme designed specifically to assist SME owners who want to grow their businesses.

“If Bahamians are to remain stakeholders of this economy, we must equip and prepare ourselves to function on a global scale and at international standards. Through this and other business education initiatives, we hope to provide the information and resources to assist our Licencees,” Rolle expressed.

“The ProNet series as offered by CEDA, is part of its ongoing mandate to enhance economic activity particularly, trade building capacity between CARIFORUM States, and we encourage our Licencees to take advantage of this valuable opportunity,” he continued.

Charles Pratt, GBPA Commercial and Business Development Manager, stated that competiveness and productivity are essential components to the survival and growth of SMEs, no matter where they operate.

“The fierce competition created by global trading, has forced SMEs to think smarter, work faster and more creatively, to take home their share of the economic pie,” Pratt noted.

“Training begins Tuesday, 25th March, focusing on Business Strategy as the first in a series of three modules, covering topics such as: Business Profitability, Competitive Advantage, Customer Strategy and Product Strategy. Other topics in the series include, Cost & Financial Management and Export Marketing, to be conducted in April and May respectively.”

To ensure the greatest impact, training allows for only 25 -30 participants in each module and individuals or businesses participating, must commit to completing all three modules. Upon completion, participants will be awarded official training certificates.

SMEs interested in registering for the ProNet Business Management Training may contact GBPA’s Enterprising Centre at 350-9061, the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce at  352-8329 or BAIC at 352-1888. Deadline for registration is Thursday, 20th March, 2014.

“SMEs make up more than 55% of the Grand Bahama business community and, employ in small numbers a strong share of the working population. By building this sector of the island’s economic pie, we can strengthen our economy as a whole and solidify Bahamians as contributing stakeholders,” Pratt concluded.
