(CCC Statement) This Press Conference will began by playing the ZNS NEWS report on October 29, 2015. This news report involved an interview with the Managing Director of the Grand Bahama Power Company \ Emera on October 28, 2015 just before he spoke at the monthly Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce meeting. The Managing Director confirmed that GBPC \ Emera is requesting for the base rate for Electricity to be increased. At this luncheon the power company further confirmed to all in attendance that the proposed increase in the base rate for electricity being applied for is an average increase 3.7 % for both Businesses and Residential Customers. (ZNS News Broadcast)

The Coalition of Concerned Citizens announced in a press conference on October 21, 2015 at that the International Bazaar that GBPC\Emera is proposing to increase the base rate for electricity. By the Power Company own words they have confirmed what we have said.  Therefore the CCC has provided factual information on this matter to the Grand Bahama Community.

The Coalition of Concerned Citizen announces to that there will be a special Town Meeting on ‘the Grand Bahama Power Company\Emera Rate Application submitted to the Regulator’. This must attend meeting will be on Monday November 9, 2015 at 7 pm at the Grand Bahama Taxi Union. We urge all Citizens, Businesses, Churches, Hotel operators, Apartment Complex owners, Government department heads and wider community of Grand Bahama to attend.  We will be inviting the Regulator and the Grand Bahama Power Company / Emera to make presentations at this Public Forum.

When it comes to the decision of whether or not to increase the base rates?  It is imperative that the Regulator hears from the Public.  We also encourage all power company customers to immediately contact the Grand Bahama Port Authority at 350-9000 and ask for the Chairman of the Regulatory Committee to express your concerns. Our Surveys have revealed that the Businesses and Residential Customers of the GBPC\ Emera does not want to see any further increase in the base rate of Electricity.  Grand Bahama let unite with a singular voice and say NO to any increase in Electricity rate. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
