PROUD MOMENT – Minister for Grand Bahama Dr. Michael Darville addressing the first ever Regenera Global Conference in Grand Bahama at the Grand Lucayan Resort.

FREEPORT, Bahamas – Minister for Grand Bahama, the Honourable Dr. Michael Darville praised The Fresh Start Class of 2016 for seizing the opportunity afforded to them through the government programme and making the most of it.

“I am proud of you. I am proud of what you have accomplished; I’m proud of how this programme has given you confidence and I’m proud of the future that is ahead of you because you made a commitment for a fresh start,” he told the excited group.

The 70 young men and women graduated with certificates in various courses – from Welding, Accounts & QuickBooks, Computer Technology, Culinary Arts, Office Procedures, General Maintenance, Acrylic Nails to Facial Care & Makeup.

The ceremony was held at the Grand Lucayan Resort under the theme: There’s Still Hope.

The Fresh Start Programme is a youth employment skills training initiative sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture that provides job search skills and training to youth between the ages of 16 to 25.

“This is an awesome programme because I have seen how it has transformed lives in our young people,” Minister Darville said.

The Minister for Grand Bahama marveled at The Fresh Start Programme, adding that it is something special in Grand Bahama that takes our young people – some who have slipped through the cracks, some who didn’t get the opportunities and some who had the ability and no one saw fit to bring them to the forefront – and gives them a fresh start at life.

To 10 of the Culinary Arts graduates who pooled together to form a company, the minister said after learning of their entrepreneurial spirit, he was moved to lend assistance and said more must be done to ensure that young entrepreneurs have access to capital so that they can make their business work.

“We are going to introduce you and your concept to the Venture Capital Fund to bring revenue to help you to start your business. We’re committed to that and we’re going to work on that effective tomorrow because you deserve it and you deserve the opportunity,” Minister Darville said.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Honourable Dr. Daniel Johnson commended those who make the programme a success, the graduates who endured the five months to make it to the end and their family members who supported them.
