Dr. Teo Cooper, Dean of Students at The College of The Bahamas Northern Bahamas Campus effective August 1, 2016.

Nassau, BAHAMAS - Dr. Teo Cooper has been Appointed Dean of Students at The College of The Bahamas Northern Bahamas Campus effective August 1, 2016 for a period of three years.

Dr. Cooper presently chairs the Board of Directors of Rhema Preparatory Academy and the University of The Bahamas Educational Research Conference Committee. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bahamas Association of Science Educators, a member of the National Science Teachers Association and is certified by the Florida Department of Education (Educational Leadership, Biology) and the Bahamas Ministry of Education.

Dr. Cooper graduated from The College of The Bahamas in 2007 with a Bachelor of Education Degree in Secondary Education: Biology/Combined Science. He holds a Master of Science Degree from Florida International University (FIU) in Higher Education Administration: Student Affairs (2008) and a Doctor of Education Degree in Curriculum & Instruction: Science Education (2015), also from FIU.

A veteran educator, Dr. Cooper previously served as Assistant Professor of Science Education at the Northern Bahamas Campus. His professional experience includes teaching positions at secondary and tertiary levels in Florida and The Bahamas. He has written on the utility of Cognitive Apprenticeship-based Instructional Coaching for Improving Science Teaching Efficacy and has presented at a number of academic forums including the Bahamas Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s Conclave of Education Officers (2015) and others hosted by Florida International University (2013) and The College of The Bahamas. Dr. Cooper has also written on Curriculum Development and Implementation in Bahamian Education.

As Dean of Students, Dr. Cooper will be responsible for the overall coordination of co-curricular programmes that support student success, including all intramural activities. Development and implementation of College policies and procedures that relate to students and coordination of the administration of student disciplinary procedures will also come under Dr. Cooper’s portfolio. Additionally, Dr. Cooper will be responsible for the review of student development programmes and will have oversight of all residential life and student life personnel issues.

Dr. Cooper, who describes himself as “foremost, a Grand Bahamian,” has served the Grand Bahama community from the age of 12 when he was appointed youth director of a local church. Now a career educator and administrator, he remains committed to the community, serving as interim youth pastor at his local church.

The appointment of Dr. Cooper to the position of Dean of Students, Northern Bahamas Campus, is crucial, given the College’s impending transition to university status, the anticipated completion of a residential facility and the planned autonomy of the Campus. Dr. Cooper’s experience in student affairs and as a faculty member has positioned him to create and maintain a safe, healthy and supportive environment and culture that undergird the intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of the institution’s students.
