First Bahamian to be inducted into the Royal Commonwealth Society

In commemoration of Commonwealth Day, the Royal Commonwealth Society has introduced its Associate Fellow honours program which represents forty-nine of the fifty-three Commonwealth nations. The first inaugural Associate Follows group are ages 18 through 29. These remarkable young people will share their skills, knowledge, and experiences to form a network of unique resources for each other and for the promotion of the Commonwealth.

Among the sixty Commonwealth citizens to be been granted the distinction of Associate Fellow is Freeport, Grand Bahama native C. McMahon Campbell, making him the first Bahamian to be inducted. 

The judges were highly impressed by his achievements which range from politics to youth development in the Commonwealth and the world over.  As an Associate Fellow, Campbell must:

1. Continue to demonstrable level of activity and experience in contributing to local, national or regional projects and programmes which improve the lives of Commonwealth citizens,

2. Be proactive and engaging with external partners (such as local government, community organisations, schools or businesses) to further the improvement of the lives of Commonwealth citizens on a particular project and

3. Overcome obstacles to deliver a particular outcome for a local community. 

C. McMahon Campbell is a graduate of the Eight Mile Rock High and Hugh W. Campbell Primary schools. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in International Business and Business Administration with a minor in Political Studies, Marketing and Management from Bethune-Cookman University. A charter member of the Caribbean Students Association at B-CU, he was also a charter member of the Rotaract clubs of Stetson University, Daytona State College, and Bethune-Cookman University where he served as president. 

During his tenure in Florida, Campbell worked alongside government officials to restructure and rebuild Daytona’s small business development strategy, town planning projects, and worked closely with the city’s Tourism Bureau. In 2014, he was elected Councilman for the East Grand Bahama constituency with the portfolio of Tourism and Business Development.

A member of the Florida Republican’s Think Tank program, Campbell is Chairman of The Kamalamee Organization, a donor to Feed the Children Foundation, serves as Honorary Chairman of Freeport, Grand Bahama - Sister Cities, is a facilitator for the Center for Creative Leadership, and is a member of America Marketing Association, Black Males Think Tank, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Founded in 1868, the Royal Commonwealth Society introduced the Associate Fellow honours program in 2015 to give its members opportunities to engage with government officials, philanthropist, world leaders and their peers directly with the future of the Commonwealth in mind. Associate Fellowship is granted to those who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to promoting the values of the Commonwealth and working to improve the lives of Commonwealth citizens.
