Freeport, Grand Bahama - Talented playwright Sandra Mortimer-Russell has written a book entitled, From My Parents’ Mout’. Her book tour begins in Grand Bahama with the launching and book signing on Saturday, December 4th 2010 from 1pm to 6pm in the Arcade of The International Bazaar.

The book reading, quadrille dancing and a sampling of the Long Island Cooler is from 2pm to 4 pm.

The book is about the practices of yesteryear, such as means of living, establishing families, child rearing, lifestyles and survival in such challenging times.

She will be presenting a book to His Excellency Sir Arthur Foulkes, Governor General of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, The Right Hon. Hubert Ingraham,   Prime Minister of  The Commonwealth  of The Bahamas, The Minister of Education and The  Official Leader of The Opposition  in New Providence on Thursday December 2nd  2010.  In view of the country’s deep systematic social problems where the moral fabric seems to have been eroded the book is a must read for today’s children and adults.

This highly respected, industrious, caring and compassionate author has an unmatched integrity with a keen sense of humor, an infectious smile and a passion to serve others.  She lives the latter in her professional work and will candidly tell you that, “I do not have a job, I serve in God’s Ministry of Health, Help, Hope and Healing.”  Having served for eight consecutive years as a founder and Chairman of the Grand Bahama AIDS Awareness Committee and Red Rose Ball Committee, coupled with   her active involvement in numerous community affairs she is also well know for her popular plays entitled, ‘ E Mussie Gat Dat Ting’ and ‘ Sum Ting Wrong’ with over 45 performances in Grand Bahama, New Providence and Turks and Caicos Islands.  Her famous production of ‘ E Musie Gat Dat ting’ earned her the Playwright of the year Award by the Ministry of Health in 1999.

The forewords in the book are written by: Dame Ivy Dumont, Bishops Drexel Gomez and Cornell Moss, Sir Albert Miller, and Dr. Homer Fleetwood. Here is what they said:

“….It is a pleasure to read material that is so clearly clean and devoid of efforts to compromise the facts, as those Bahamians over forty recognize as truth…. I commend this book to readers throughout The Bahamas and to visitors who desires to experience a feeling of the islands….”

Dame Ivy Dumont, former Governor General of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.

A wonderful example of the importance of home and family life at a time when ancient values are being rejected for lesser gains…… one of the defining features this book is to be found in depicting the journey we have traveled from the cultural milieu of the ‘old Bahamas’ to our current cultural mix of the ‘new Bahamas’.  I enthusiastically commend, From My  Parents’ Mout’.”

The Most Rev’d Drexel W. Gomez, C.M.G., B.A., D.D. Assistant Bishop, Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas & The Turks & Caicos Islands.

…” through these pages you will have many examples of responsible parenting.  Sandra reminds her readers of how it used to be.   Much of how it used to be made us more loving and caring, better family members, more concerned neighbors, and a better country.  Sandra is making a deposit into a renaissance of family life in this country….” The Right Reverend Cornell Jerome Moss, V11 Bishop of Guyana including Cayenne & Suriname

“…It is a family jewel, or more likely a philosopher’s stone offered to those who can hear and subscribe from a mother’s tongue, spoken by wise Bahamian grandparents…. read this book and you will never be the same…” – Dr. Homer Fleetwood, Morgan State University

“.......There are many old adages and colloquialisms used in this book and the writer has spent an inordinate amount of time with her parents exploring what they mean locally…the book is worth reading….” Sir Albert Miller, KCMG; Businessman

Sandra wishes to profoundly thank all of her well wishers and the undying love and encouragement from her many supporters over the years.

A donation will be made to The Grand Bahama Home for the Aged.
