GBPA Supports Upcoming China-Bahama Trade Mission

Freeport, Grand Bahama – Executives of The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA), extended a warm welcome to delegates Ms. Xiaoyan Li, Section Chief, and Mr. Xiang Fei, Division Chief, members of the advance team, for the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Hubei, China.

The duo met with GBPA’s President,   Ian Rolle and Vice Chairman of GBPA Miss Sarah St. George, along with other team executives, to progress plans already underway for a China-Bahamas trade mission scheduled for November 29th – Dec 2nd of this year.

President Rolle noted to the delegation, that GBPA is working in tandem with the Ministry for Grand Bahama, toward a common goal of fostering beneficial matches between Bahamian businesses and enterprises based in Hubei.

“We understand that there will be around 35-40 companies visiting Grand Bahama as part of the trade mission, that they are looking for opportunities and ready to create partnerships or to invest with local companies during the upcoming visit, ” stated Rolle.  “And so, GBPA is working closely with the Ministry for Grand Bahama to ensure the success of this trade visit,” Rolle continued.

Vice Chairman, Sarah St. George said she is optimistic regarding the trade mission, as there are numerous ‘Investor Ready projects’ that could benefit as a result of this initiative.

“It is indeed my belief that Freeport and by extension the island of Grand Bahama’s economy has the potential to flourish significantly.  However, local business operators on the island must take advantage of opportunities that will encourage their business to expand its reach to a global market,” she commented.

“The Grand Bahama Port Authority is pleased to work with this team from Hubei, China as they explore the unprecedented amount of possibilities that exist in Grand Bahama.  This is an excellent opportunity for businesses to take advantage of this upcoming occasion that will showcase a number of investors,” St. George continued.

Prior to their meeting with GBPA, the advance team met with the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, Minister for Grand Bahama, as well as the President of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Kevin Seymour.  The team is hosted by Ms. Ginger Moxey, CEO of Immerse Bahama, who is organizing events for the November trade mission. Tours are planned for East, West and Central Grand Bahama, and will include the island’s industrial, touristic, and luxury real estate sectors.
