Mac Lightbourn - Electrical Engineer

Freeport, Grand Bahama – Grand Bahama Power Company is pleased to announce that Troy MacKenzie has recently been promoted to the position of Director of Transmission & Distribution. Troy started his career with the company in 1988 as a linesman. Over the years he has worked his way through the ranks of the company as a Meter Technician, Customer Service T&D Supervisor, Substation & Underground Department Supervisor and Line Construction & Maintenance Supervisor. His extensive knowledge of the transmission and distribution system and experiences gained through his various roles in the organization, will serve him well in this new phase of his career. “If I can use one word to describe my career with GBPC and that I can attribute to my success, that would be change,” said MacKenzie. “I want to encourage the young people of this country to embrace change, welcome it and to continuously rise to the challenge. Do not look at any job as too menial because there is something to be learned and gained in all we do. Had I not been open to change and allowing myself to be challenged through the different roles that I have had with this company, I would not be where I am today.”

GBPC is also pleased to announce the recent hire of two engineers Ryan Wood and Mac Lightbourn. Mac Lightbourn, an electrical engineer, is a graduate of University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida and will initially be assigned to work with the T&D team supporting the substation group at T&D. According to Mr. Lightbourn, as a young Grand Bahamian, it was always his intent to come home after completing his engineering degree. “I am grateful to the Grand Bahama Power Company for allowing me the opportunity to come home and work in my field of study,” said Lightbourn. “I am particularly humbled because I know that not everyone has these types of opportunities. It is important to me that I am able to bring the knowledge that I gave gained to help build a better company and give back to my community.”
Ryan Wood, a second generation mechanical engineer, is a graduate of Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida. Ryan will be reporting to the Peel Street Generating facility and be initially assigned to the Maintenance team.

“Although I am a recent graduate, I was fortunate enough to gain experience while pursuing my degree, for companies like Florida Light and Power,” remarked Wood. “I am particularly interested in what is going on in the energy sector in regard to alternative energy. So, as a young Bahamian engineer, I am excited to come home and work for a company like GBPC that is developing and shaping their alternative energy portfolio. This is definitely something that I want to be a part of.”
