Hutchison Port Holdings Bahamas appoints new Commercial Director

FREEPORT, Bahamas -  Hutchison Port Holdings Bahamas announces the appointment of James Turner as Business Development/Commercial Director, Freeport Container Port (FCP), Freeport Harbour Company (FHC) and Grand Bahamas Airport Company (GBAC) as of February 8, 2010.

Gary Gilbert, CEO of Hutchison Port Holdings, Bahamas in announcing the appointment of Mr. Turner said the 21 year veteran of destination marketing, airline and cruise negotiations, James Turner “will be an asset to FCP, FHC, GBAC as we continue to build and expand our vibrant businesses in the Bahamas. Hutchison’s commitment to Grand Bahama future growth is enhanced by James Turner joining our team” said Mr. Gilbert.

Mr. Turner for most of his career led the private sector tourism partners at the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board where he functioned from 2006 – 2010 as the Executive Vice President responsible for both the Grand Bahama and Florida offices and all associated business interest.  He specialized in government and private sector relationships and destination marketing.

Mr. Turner held several leading positions at the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism over the course of some 17 years. While based in the USA with the BMOT he was the Director of Bahamas.com, E-Commerce and the Bahamas Airlift marketing team based in Florida.  At one point he also held the position of Director of Strategic Planning and Marketing for Grand Bahama Island.

During the course of his career Turner has led and managed relationships with senior government officials, leading private sector management teams, worked with tour operators and wholesalers on developing and implementing programmes, managed airline and cruise partnership marketing, travel agents relationships, worked with destination hoteliers, and guided special interest partnerships.

Mr. Turner is the father of two daughters and is married to the former Joanna Moore of Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama. Although he was born in Nassau he is considered a son and product of Grand Bahama Island where he spent most of his adult life associated with advancing the interest of the island.
