With less than 4-weeks before the start of the International Franchise Expo (IFE), in New York City, licencees of The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA) have demonstrated a keen interest in participating in the exciting event where the Invest Grand Bahama Promotional Unit (IGB) will be an exhibitor.

Port executives, Deann Seymour, CFO and Derek Newbold, Sr. Manager of Business Development, made the grand announcement at a Customer Service Training workshop hosted by GBPA’s Invest Grand Bahama Small Business Bureau back in April. The random prize drawing gave one GBPA licencee an all-expense paid trip to New York City, to attend the IFE tradeshow, June 18th – 20th.

Lucky winner, Eloise Stephen of Freeport Decorators, met recently with President Rolle and the executive team to claim her coveted prize. Applauding the efforts of his team, President Rolle expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing initiatives by GBPA, especially those dedicated to empowering licencees.

“We are excited by the response of licencees to participate with us for this diversity building initiative,” commented Rolle. “We anticipate that the IFE event will  stimulate new innovation and creativity amongst licencees,  in addition to making known the benefits of Grand Bahama as a premier investment jurisdiction, also ,” he continued. “It’s very encouraging to see that licencees are motivated to participate, and truly we are excited to have them join us.”

Derek Newbold, Sr. Manager of Business Development shared that promotional and travel arrangements are well underway, and that he is both pleased and excited to see the positive response by licencees for the upcoming event.

“GBPA has worked closely with The Bahamas Government, the Chambers of Commerce and other private entities to promote Grand Bahama in the past and we continue to do so. While licencees have joined us from time to time for various trade missions; this will be the first initiative where GBPA has independently extended an open invitation to have licencees travel with us, as we promote the island,” he explained.

“We anticipate some great returns from the IFE event, for both the island and individual licencees as well. From a planning and working perspective, licencees will get a first-hand view of the detailed planning and thorough research required to make these events successful. Further, they will have an opportunity to gain added exposure and to witness hundreds of unique business ideas. Most of these will be franchise business models, all proving successful in other economies…some very similar to ours in terms of scale and critical mass,” Newbold added. “It really is a great opportunity for everyone.”

The IFE tradeshow takes place over a 3-day stretch at the Javits Center in New York City. The annual event is a renowned gathering for the franchise business industry, hosting hundreds of exhibitors from every business sector and investment level. Deann Seymour, CFO for the GBPA Group, encouraged licencees to capitalize on this major opportunity.

“We encourage as many as are able, to participate at the upcoming IFE event. You will be inspired and motivated by all  of the unique ideas and business models out there. There are hundreds of opportunities waiting to be tapped into, suitable for both the local and national economy,” Seymour advised. “GBPA is pleased to provide this avenue for exposure, but each individual has to see and grasp the opportunity for themselves,” she concluded.
