Sharon Williams, who served as the hospital administrator since 2000
will be transferred to the Sandilands Rehabilitation Center in New
Providence and will be replaced by its current administrator Catherine
Weech, who served as administrator in Grand Bahama in the past.
According to PHA director, Herbert Brown the change comes as the
government prepares to digitalize medical records – a move which
Williams will be instrumental in.
"There are a number of initiatives that the PHA is undertaking and as
a direct result we had to look at the skill mix that we have in our
administrative ranks to determine where those skills are and to ensure
that we can put those skills where they are needed at this time," Brown
said.
" We will be creating a major initiative in respect to electronic
medical records throughout the public health sector. Williams is
trained and has a degree in that area. She is going to play a pivotal
role in that process. She will be the administrator for the Sandilands
Rehabilitation Center and she will also play a role in taking us over
the next two to three years to be paperless."
Brown said that they have been extremely impressed with William's
performance and the projects undertaken in the health care sector in
Grand Bahama, is a clear indication of that.
"She has done extremely well and we are very proud of her."
Weech, he added is no stranger to Grand Bahama and will build on what
has been started on the island including the improvements to the
Accident and Emer-gency Department, new operating rooms and continuing
renovations. She will also oversee plans for the construction of a new
clinic for the Freeport area.
Williams has already embraced her new position and said she looks forward to the challenge.
"It is always new and exciting when we are presented with new
challenges in the administrative area. The managing director has
assured me that there are a number of projects that he has set aside
that he would like me to assist the PHA and The Bahamas government
with. That is the type of job I have been doing for the last 10 years
and I look forward to continuing it."
She noted that the improvements at the local hospital have been some of the highlights in her career,
"Those were projects that we had on the table for quite a number of
years and we worked diligently and quite patiently knowing that they
would come to fruition."
Weach is expected to take up her new position as administrator for the Grand Bahama Health Services on Monday.
