Regulatory Experts to Discuss Marketing of Adult Stem Cell Therapy at STEMSO Conference

ANDERSON, South Carolina – The International Stem Cell Society (STEMSO) has announced that several leading attorneys in international regulatory affairs will be speaking at the global conference in The Bahamas, February 19-22, 2014. The conference, titled “Bridging the Gap: Research to Point of Care”, brings together medical scientists, clinicians, regulatory experts, and investors to discuss progress in the field of research and clinical protocols and the process of taking promising therapies to fight chronic disease to market in a responsible manner.

The conference will be held at the Grand Lucayan Resort and Hotel, Grand Bahama Island, near Freeport.  Mary Ann Chirba, J.D., D.Sc., M.P.H., a renowned law professor with Boston University Law School will speak from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Her topic is In Search of Regulatory Consistency: The Role of In vitro Fertilization (IVF) Regulations in Improving FDA Oversight of Autologous Stem Cell Therapies. Her research interests include how law and regulation can promote or impede desired health outcomes, emerging federal and state regulations, and international guidelines for adult stem cell therapies. Andrew Ittleman, Esq., a partner in Fuerst, Ittleman, David and Joseph will follow from 2:45 to 3:15.

The next day, from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Mitchell Fuerst of the same firm will speak as a panel member on the topic of Medical Industry Start-Ups in The Bahamas along with Matthew Feshbach, CEO of Okyanos Heart Institute, and President Ian Rolle of the Grand Bahama Port Authority. The panel will be moderated by Arthur K. Parris, Jr., of Parris Whittaker in Freeport, Grand Bahama.
