Freeport, Bahamas - Tuesday June 6, 2017, was officially nomination day throughout the Bahamas for Local Government Office. Scores of persons with varying backgrounds showed up at the Administrators Offices from East, Central and West Grand Bahama, hoping to be elected to fill one of the seats in their respective constituencies.

No stranger to public and community service for many years, Tammi Mitchell, a Candidate in the Pineridge Constituency, said, “Her decision to run for local government is one she does not take lightly having thought and prayed about it for the past two years before taking the leap of faith."

Positions she currently holds are a supplies officer assigned to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Grand Bahama, with responsibilities for the NEMA Warehouse however; she is also the deputy co-chair of the Grand Bahama Disaster Consultative Committee (GBDCC), a voluntary position she has held for more than 15 years; a board member of the Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association (BASRA); a member of the Rotary Club of Lucaya (RCL); and a member of the Grand Bahama Road Safety Committee (GBRSC).

Mitchell also pointed out that if given the opportunity to serve as a Local Government representative, a few of her goals will be to look at establishing disaster management teams in the Pineridge Constituency, fostering a better relationship with government officials and other stakeholders to ensure that the concerns of the residents are addressed; and continuing to assist with the Local Government Council with ongoing projects that would have not been completed by the previous Local Government administration.

On June 22nd, she is asking all residents in the Pineridge Constituency to look for the “horse shoe” and cast their vote for her!
