Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - What once was a location crowded with grocery shoppers
fighting to get shopping carts and prime parking spots to stock up on their much-needed food supplies
on a
beautiful Saturday morning at 11:30am, is now a ghost town. City Markets, the
former home of Winn Dixie food store at Seahorse Plaza, is now enclosed with
shutters; a sight that long time Grand Bahama residents have to actually see to
believe.
A small contingent of staff could be seen removing the last few items
from the now closed City Markets Seahorse Plaza location to be restocked in
their only remaining open store at Eight Mile Rock, which just reopened
Thursday January 5th, 2012. Our photos
were shot Saturday January 7th, 2012 at 11:30am.

In keeping with the old adage; “Location, location, location” as key to
business viability, City Markets occupied three prime shopping locations on
Grand Bahama Island; Seahorse Plaza, Town Center and Eight Mile Rock. However, from the onset the other keys to
making their business successful at their prime locations were not met and as a
result Grand Bahama Island has been dealt another blow…
for now.
