Freeport, Grand Bahama - Cat Island MP, the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister Philip and Illinois’ Village of Richton Park President Mayor Richard Reinbold are set to witness the official signing of a Sister Cities agreement between the people of Cat Island and the Village of Richton Park on Friday, June 12, 2015.

The historic event, a year in the making, will take place at Fernandez Bay in Cat Island.

Ginger Moxey, President and CEO of Immerse Bahamas, who spearheaded the initiative will also be in attendance for the signing, along with Bahamas Honourary Consul to Chicago Michael Fountain.

While the formalities of the signing is just hours away, the bond between the people of Cat Island and Richton Park have already formed and were cemented with a visit to the Village of Richton Park by the Cat Island Sister City Association in September 2014 and a subsequent visit to Cat Island by the people of Richton Park three months ago.

Deputy Prime Minister Davis and his wife Ann Marie hosted Mayor Reinbold, his delegation and members of the Cat Island Sister City Association to a welcome dinner at their home in New Providence during the four-day visit back in March.

The aim of the Sister Cities relationship, among other things, is to realize mutually beneficial opportunities between Cat Island and the Village of Richton Park, promote Cat Island and The Bahamas as a vacation destination and develop educational exchange programs.

Cat Island is one of the first islands under this initiative to forge a Sister Cities relationship with the Village of Richton Park.

The union was facilitated by Immerse Bahamas, a destination and project management company that aims to promote culturally-immersive programs, that has partnered with Sister Cities International to develop sister city relationships for the enhancement of cultural, educational, tourism and business exchanges throughout the islands of The Bahamas.
