Grand Bahama, Bahamas – Western Air, the largest one hundred percent Bahamian owned and operated airline in The Bahamas, will open its six million dollar, state- of- the- art terminal on Saturday. The Passenger Terminal, Maintenance Hangar and Corporate Offices will officially open at Grand Bahama International Airport this Saturday, September 5th, 2015 with a public invite to all.

Once the new terminal opens, all Western Air flights arriving and departing to and from Freeport will operate from the fully equipped facility. The company’s latest terminal is a larger version of its headquarters in San Andros, and the company expects this new terminal will push the envelope in Bahamian travel offering its passengers more comfort, convenience, safety and luxury!

The Grand Bahama terminal has a spacious check–in area with a concierge desk, bag drop off and ticket sales service counter, free Wi-Fi, and free parking. Checked passengers will be treated to luxury cushioned seating, cable television and a fully stocked snack bar called the ‘Frequent Flyer Lounge’ located in the departure lounge. The high-tech facility will also have phone and tablet charging stations, a Western Air Kids Club corner with mini- cinema playing the latest children’s movies and the Western Air ‘President Club’ for Platinum Frequent Flyer members.

Platinum Frequent Flyer members will have private access via electronic control keys, free valet parking, meeting and conference rooms (with advanced notice) and are offered early and late check-in, as well as preferred boarding. Additionally, Platinum members will enjoy free hors d’oeurves and free alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in the President’s Club.

The airline has also made significant investment in the latest security technology for the terminal and security screening personnel have received training from US and Bahamian certified instructors. Vice President of Operations and General Counsel of Western Air, Sherrexcia Rolle, Esq, noted, “we look at our passengers as our family members, so when we prepared this terminal we wanted to implement features that not only will make them comfortable, but also provide them with an environment in which they feel safe and at home.”

The terminal will be used as the airline’s northern hub looking to relaunch its flights from Grand Bahama to Marsh Harbour, Abaco and Bimini. “For the first time in 31 years since Helda Air, larger aircrafts will be offered on these routes, flying from the Freeport airport,” said Captain Rex Rolle, President & CEO of Western Air. “We plan to service both routes with our SAAB 340As, which are 33- seaters.”

Western Air is excited about this expansion and feels it will aid the growing economy in the Northern Bahamas. Captain Rolle added, “I believe this expansion will prove to be beneficial for Bahamians conducting business in the northern Bahamas, as these markets continue to develop. We have heard countless requests to offer these routes and I think now is a good time to do so, especially with the opening of our new facility here in Grand Bahama.”

The Freeport to Bimini and Marsh Harbour routes, which will be announced at a later date have sentimental value for Captain Rolle as he recalls, “Almost 31 years ago, I was a young pilot working for Helda Air where I trained and learned about the airline business under the guidance of Mr. Paul and Eddie Darville. Those routes in particular are dear to my heart because at that time, I was blessed to be a part of the early development and modernization of those routes.”

Flying forward, Western Air proudly invites the public to stop by the new Western Air passenger terminal September 5th, 2015 for light refreshments, a glimpse of the facility, and a chance to enter to win a free roundtrip ticket and other surprises.
