Grand Bahama American Women’s Club Holds 17th Annual Golf Classic

The GBAWC’s 17th Annual Golf Classic takes place February 22 at The Reef Course, with a $25,000 cash prize for hole-in-one winners. The format is a four-ball scramble, blind draw with a shotgun start at noon. Registration is at The Reef Course Club House February 19, 20, and 21 between 11a.m. and 3 p.m. The $100 registration fee includes dinner at the awards ceremony at the Ocean Reef Yacht Club after the tournament.

The Art of Giving has underwritten the $25,000 prize on the 4th hole, a Par 3. A hole-in-one on the 8th Hole wins a Travis Matthew signature outfit and a $500 online shopping spree. A hole-in-one on #17 wins a one-year supply of Bridgestone golf balls. And a hole-in-one on #14 wins a set of Cobra F8 Irons.

The Grand Bahama American Women’s Club (GBAWC) celebrates its 54th anniversary this year. Since its inception in 1966, the club has met its philanthropic mission of giving back to the Grand Bahama community by underwriting scholarships and funding community projects and summer camps for island youth. To date, over 240 student scholarships have been awarded.

This year, the ever-popular tournament has received “super generous” funding from area businesses, said club President Peggy Groves, including $1000 donations from All Bahamas Construction, FOCOL Ltd., Grand Bahama Shipyard and Taino Development Co, Ltd. Bahama Food, Coral Windows, Executive Marine Management, Grand Bahama Power Company, Home Fabrics, Municipal Motors and Quality Auto are $300 hole sponsors.

“It is only through local business and community support of our philanthropic golf tournament that we are able to continue to fund scholarships for the students of Grand Bahama,” said Groves. The Reef Course, she added, has also been a long-term partner over the seventeen years of the tournament.
