Freeport, Bahamas – More than twenty-two nonprofit feeding centers and church outreach programs, members of the Bahamas Feeding Network (BFN) on Grand Bahama, were the recipients of some much-needed assistance through the Feed 5000 Families campaign spearheaded by AML Foods Limited (AML) at the end of the year. Representatives gathered at Solomon’s in Freeport to receive food vouchers from AML Foods which were distributed by BFN Executive Director, Phillip Smith, volunteers and staff of AML. It is the fourth consecutive year that AML Foods Limited partnered with BFN on its ‘Feed the 5000’ initiative. “We wanted families to have a great Christmas and not worry or stress about where their next meal will come from,” shared Daneisha Clarke, an AML Foods Associate. “Especially after the hurricane we felt that it was important to do the annual give back because there are still so many in need.”
Through its membership in Grand Bahama of more than 22 organizations - which include churches, soup kitchens, and other feeding organizations - BFN made gift cards available to scores of deserving residents, just in time for the Christmas holiday. Each of the gift cards, valued at $40 dollars, were redeemable at any AML Solomon’s and Cost Right locations. As expected, other than our membership of churches, soup kitchens and feeding organizations a number of residents showed up to avail themselves of the assistance, some of whom had no prior connection to the Bahamas Feeding Network or its affiliates. “They were not turned away,” noted Executive Director Smith. “It’s in the Bahamas Feeding Network’s mission statement to perform as an entity for the distribution of food to those throughout our islands unsure of where their next meal is coming from.”
From beginning to end, the influx of people continued to grow, as did smiles from not only the ones receiving but as well as volunteers. “This is a beautiful act of kindness and love, and my family and I truly appreciate all of it,” commented one of the persons who were receiving gift cards. More than $100,000 dollars was raised from the generous donations made by AML partners and the wider public, which included $30,000 dollars donated by AML Foods Ltd, 30,000 representing its 30th Anniversary. A total of $30,000 in gift cards was distributed in Grand Bahama. “BFN is very pleased to carry out this distribution to feeding centers on Grand Bahama,” said Smith. “We have heard a lot about the state of the economy on the island and it is obvious that persons are experiencing difficult times. Life is truly about giving back to those in need in our community,” he continued. “BFN has been working in conjunction with the great organizations who are working daily to help others I think its spiritual, and that when you give back to those in need, you literally give to God.”
