Dr. Santy Daya wins cook-off at Butler's Food World

Freeport , Bahamas - After a few minutes of watching neuropharmacologist Dr. Santy Daya cook up some tasty Indian food, Butler's Food World was saturated with the wonderful odours.

This, plus the exotic taste of the various items produced helped to give this chef the coveted winning position in the four-week cook-off at Butler's Food store.

Over the past five weeks the cook-off was held at the store beginning on August 14 with chef Sherilene Cartwright of Bell Channel Inn, then continued with Nakaya Talbot-Etienne of Black Diamond Cup Cakes and Catering who showed off all things lobster.

The following week was a no go because of Hurricane Irene, then continued last week with Chef Bernard Dawkins who displayed an array of Bahamian dishes.

All three previous chefs gave variations on Bahamian dishes with some new ideas on what could be done, especially with Dawkins' sugar apple ice cream.

Then this week, Dr. Santy Daya of Ross University who cooks as a hobby stepped up to the plate as it were and brought very big pots.

The three judges: Ron Jones, Andrew Moss and Esther Quant were impressed enough to give the winning title to Dr. Daya who was really surprised at the announcement and truly pleased.

Organizer Jan Lowe said that they were happy to put on the cook-off which featured quite a number of ingredients from the shop. She said that they hope to continue arranging other such events at the store in the future.
