Gary Sands, Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Sales & Marketing Executive happily lending a hand to the residents of Western Grand Bahama in the wake of the destruction caused by Hurricane Matthew

Freeport, Bahamas – In the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, many people were seen doing all that they could to bring help and relief to persons across The Bahamas affected by Hurricane Matthew.
The Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Co. Ltd’s brewery is located in the West of Freeport and knows the community in the west of the island very well. The owners and staff immediately after the all clear was given, pitched-in in a major way to assist after the storm, flying in resources to help persons with recovery efforts. They helped transport and distribute items sent by Stuart Jet Center Day Maker and Blue Marlin Cove, a total of 6 flights a day for 4 days (28 full flights of relief). Items like tarps, generators, chainsaws, water and food items definitely helped the communities of western Grand Bahama who saw major damage and losses because of Hurricane Matthew.
Gary Sands, Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Sales & Marketing Executive led the charge along with friends via Nassau and Grand Bahama, bringing in thousands of dollars’ worth of supplies from South Florida via the HS Prichard connections.
“It was humbling to be a part of this experience,” said Gary. “I was in Nassau for Jeanne and Francis, but I’ve been in Grand Bahama for over a year now and I feel a part of this community. It was devastating to see the damage but it sure felt great to be able to give everyone a little something to get them back on their feet.”
In the aftermath of the damages lost due the to powerful Hurricane Matthew, many persons stepped in to assist including Gary Sands, Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Sales & Marketing Executive who led a team from Florida that flew into Grand Bahama 28 times immediately after the passage of Hurricane Matthew to bring relief aid.

Coordinated via the jet center in Florida, donors flew in hundreds of cases of water and baby items as well as non-perishable food items, distributing them through the communities hardest hit the major storm. Residents were thrilled by the assistance and thanked Gary, the Brewery team and their friends for helping them. Though these were not long term fixes, it was a step in the right direction to bring immediate aid that helped them in the short term, which residents were desperately in need of.
“My Grandmother is a former West End native,” noted Sands. “She would have been disheartened to see her birthplace so effected. But Grand Bahamians are resilient and I know they will rebuild again, as they have helped us build the success of our brewery here.”
As NEMA and the Government seek to repair the island, the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Company encourages everyone to work with reputable charity organizations and make a donation to the Hurricane Relief efforts. “I cannot thank my friends, family and our staff enough for their efforts and volunteering their time. I am in awe of what Blue Marlin and Stuart Jet Centre did for our island,” commented Gary. “We at the Brewery are committed to this island and know it will get back on its feet soon.
Thousands of pounds of supplies brought in to assist person affected by Hurricane Matthew. Items flown in include baby pampers and wipes, water, non-perishable food and household items like bleach and other cleaning products.
