As a part of its
“Love Thy Neighbor Month”, connecting with the church’s neighboring communities
of Pine Tree Subdivision, Sunset Subdivision and Belgrave (Back of Town),
Freeport Bible Church (FBC) honored 13 men of those communities, in its Father’s
Day Service this past Sunday, June 21, 2015.
The
thirteen men honoured were, Rev. Jonathan McMinns, Dewitt Henfield, William
Neely, George Hall, Leroy Pennerman, Robert Gibson, Joseph Lewis, Raoul
Francis, Roosevelt Rolle, Gerald Rolle, Doyle Burrows Sr., Ivan Francis and
Carl Ferguson.
Leader of the church’s
outreach ministry, Pastor Karol Roache, said, “The
list of men chosen is not an exhaustive list of the men worthy of honor from
those communities at all, .however the men we honored weremen who were recommended by the
neighborhood association, men who serve the community in some way, men of good
report, good models in the home and the
community”.
Speaking
on behalf of the men that were honoured, Assistant Superintendent of Police,
Doyle Burrows Sr., said, “On
behalf of the men, I wish to thank Pastor Outten and Assistant Pastor Roache
and the entire Freeport Bible Church Membership for recognizing these men in
the neighboring community. Most of the men had never received any kind of
recognition in their entire lives and were very surprised that someone took
note of their contributions to their community. Each of the honorees has and
continues to play a very significant role in their neighborhoods and is known
by the residents and throughout the community. Their unselfish acts of kindness
and heroisms are their traits that are done from the goodness of their hearts
and not for any recognition at all. It
certainly was a joy working with Pastor Roache and the committee members. This
was the spark needed to revitalize the ‘Know Your Neighbor Association’. We
have committed ourselves to partner with the Church in this and future
endeavors. We look forward to galvanizing our efforts for making our community
a role model of what a Godly Neighborhood should be”.
This
was one of a few activities that members of FBC held for their neighboring
communities this month. On Saturday June 06th, they did a refurbishment
of C.A. Smith Park and on Saturday June 13, there was a community fun day on
the park where the residents of the communities were treated to food and fun. There
were basketball and domino tournaments, lots of fun and games for the children
and entertainment was provided by the church’s Children’s Dance Ministry. Nurses
from the Public Hospital Authority, who are members of FBC, were also on hand
conducting health screenings. This coming Sunday, June 28th is being
dubbed, “Community Connection Sunday”, as residents of the church’s neighboring
communities are invited to worship at FBC in their 9:30 a.m. service. During
the service awards will be presented to the winners of the tournaments held on
the community fun day.
The
vision of FBC is, “Love God, Love People and Serve the World”. Their weekly
service is on Sunday mornings at 9:30. Pastor Wilbur Outten is the Senior
Pastor.
