Freeport, Bahamas - Christina and Manfred Stoecker from Germany have been long-time visitors to Grand Bahama and have appreciated the beauty of the island as well as the friendliness and hospitality of the people!

They were horrified when they followed the course of hurricane Matthew on the German TV and watched the storm as it travelled over the Western part of Grand Bahama. Through communications with Manfred’s sister, Erika Gates, they learned how much devastation had occurred and that many people in the West had lost everything.

When Christina’s birthday was about to be celebrated a few weeks ago, they asked their friends and family to refrain from bringing gifts and flowers. Instead they encouraged their guests to donate money to be sent to the people of the Western part of Grand Bahama who had suffered so much. Everybody was happy to contribute and the collected funds were sent to Erika Gates who presented a check to the Salvation Army in the amount of $ 2000. A note was sent along saying, “From Germany with Love for the wonderful people of West Grand Bahama”
