GBPA VOLUNTEERS DONATE TO THE CHILDREN’S HOME – In an effort to give back to the community, the recently formed ‘GBPA Volunteers’, donated new school text books to The Grand Bahama Children’s Home (TGBCH). On hand for the presentation and a day of fun with the kids were some of the newly elected officers and members (left to right): Sergio Armaly, Sergeant at Arms; Shenae Albury, Treasurer; Kara Cartwright, Secretary; Sarah Cooper, Social Officer; Kendra Clarke, President; Crystal Woodside, Secretary, TGBCH; Rhandrea Fox, Vice President; Nicole Colebrooke, member; Margaret Williams, Membership Representative; and Telina Smith, member.

Freeport, Bahamas – The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited’s (GBPA) newly-formed group, ‘GBPA Volunteers’, recently spent a fun-filled afternoon with kids of The Grand Bahama Children’s Home (TGBCH).
The GBPA Volunteers Organization was the vision of GBPA-President, Ian Rolle, established as a means of giving back to the community. True to their mandate, over 20 GBPA Volunteers delivered fun, fellowship and giving, to the almost 30 residents of the Children’s Home.
Adults and kids alike frolicked in the grounds of the Home as they played ‘Bat-n-Ball’, various board games and enjoyed tasty treats from the grill. “As a group we decided to spend quality time with the kids at the centre. Although physical donations are important, nothing surpasses human interaction and one-on-one time with the kids,” said GBPA Volunteers’ president, Kendra Clarke.
In an effort to ‘make it happen’, the group also donated much-needed, school text books. Additionally, several GBPA Volunteer members signed-up to assist with weekly homework and reading at the centre.

Administrator of The Grand Bahama Children’s Home, Brennamae Cooper was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support by the GBPA Volunteers and their kind gestures. “It is certainly an honorable thing when people can reach back into themselves and offer so much to others who are in need. Your good deed will certainly go a long way in affording our children the opportunity to live better lives,” Cooper expressed.
“On behalf of the grateful children of The Grand Bahama Children’s Home, I extend sincere gratitude to you, the fine volunteers of The Grand Bahama Port Authority,” she added.
Vice President-GBPA, Ginger Moxey, commended the volunteers for the group’s inaugural efforts. “The level of support by the members truly demonstrates their commitment to undertaking various projects to improve our communities. Their decision, to give of their time and energies, is rewarding for both givers and recipients,” she stated.
As the GBPA Volunteers continue in their mission to positively impact communities on Grand Bahama, they look forward to continued interaction with The Grand Bahama Children’s Home, as well as their next community project, slated for October.
