Employees of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited attended a VAT Training Session to arm them with pertinent information regarding the fast approaching tax regime.

Freeport, Grand Bahama -  As the date for the implementation of VAT is less than a month away, The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA) took a proactive approach regarding the pending tax regime by providing training sessions for its employees on Friday.

This training initiative that follows an effort recently headed by GBPA afforded licencees the opportunity to gain pertinent information involving VAT is a continuation of GBPA’s overall goal to inform the masses.

Speaking to the importance of persons gaining a grasp of a time sensitive issue, GBPA President Mr. Ian Rolle shared his thoughts on the one day seminar.

“Time is of the essence when it comes to the dissemination of information as it relates to VAT as its date of implementation is set at January 1, 2015.  It is indeed our goal to not only ensure that our licencees are well informed, but it is also our aim to make certain that our employees are knowledgeable about the subject of Value Added Tax,” he said.

Serving as the program’s presenter, VAT Consultant from the Ministry of Finance Keith Worrell said he applauded GBPA’s efforts thus far with their proactive approach to VAT training.

Keith Worrell, who served as the presenter of the VAT Training Session informed the GBPA employees about a myriad of topics influencing Value Added Tax.

“We’ve been putting up a lot of effort with disseminating information with regard to VAT… Both from the standpoint of consumer education as well as educating the business community.  A lot of what we’ve done has been in conjunction with the Port Authority, they have been in the vanguard with reference to getting this information out to their licencees as well as their employees,” he said.

“I was particularly impressed by the fact that from the first presentations that we did for the licencees, Ms. Sarah St. George, Mr. Ian Rolle as well as the other senior members of their executive team were there.  However, today is the continuation of their commitment to VAT and we are more than happy to support initiatives like this because our objective is to get this message out to the general public, both the business community as well as consumers,” Worrell added.

Over 30 employees benefitted from the informative training effort.
