GGYA Silver and Bronze Awards Ceremony

Special guest speaker and presenter David Mellor, who had the whole audience captivated with his expedition stories to such places as Mt. Everest.

Grand Bahama Island - On June 4th the Governor General Youth Award (GGYA) programme held an awards ceremony to present the Bronze and Silver Awards at the Foster B. Pestaina Centre.

The Mistress of Ceremony was Mrs. Lavender Roberts, Unit Leader, Sunland Baptist Academy.  The vote of thanks was given by Ms. Denise Mortimer, GGYA National Executive Director. Special guest speaker and presenter was businessman David Mellor, who had the whole audience captivated with his expedition stories to such places as Mt. Everest. Mr. Mellor brought pictures, equipment and even the Bahamian flag he had placed on Everest's summit.

There were 66 bronze participants and 51 silver participants, from 7 different Grand Bahama schools...

The Governor-General’s Youth Award is an exciting self-development Programme available to all young people worldwide equipping them with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their communities and the world.   To date over 6 million young people from over 125 countries have been motivated to undertake a  variety of voluntary and challenging activities.   The Governor-General’s Youth Award is a member of the International Award Association for young people.  There are presently 39 units in the Bahamas with 800 active participants.
