Freeport, The Bahamas Regatta fever is in the air, and chairman of the Grand Bahama Regatta & Heritage Festival Committee, Chervita Campbell wants you to catch the fever. This year Chairman Campbell and her team are striving to host a debt free regatta.

Hosting an event such as this is not an easy task. Chairman Campbell will tell you that funding is a critical component to the success of the event. The Grand Bahama Regatta Committee has had its challenges; however resolute to not be swept away, Chairman Campbell and her team are once again partnering with Grand Bahamian Brewery & Beverage and Sands Beer to host their 2nd annual Fish Fry Fundraiser to build toward a successful event from July 17-19th at Taino Beach.

in addition to Bahamian Brewery, the Bahamas Tobacco -Lucy 242 popular cigarette brand has thrown in their support and will assist the regatta committee with their fundraiser scheduled for Good Friday, April 3rd 2015 at Independence Park commencing at noon.

The wider Grand Bahama community is encouraged to come out and enjoy and support the event which will in turn defray expenses for the 2015 regatta.  As is tradition to eat fish on Good Friday, it is also a Bahamian tradition to sail these crystal blue waters in our wooden sloops as our majestic white sails catches the mighty winds whilst we tack and fight our way to victory. The menu will be Fry Fish with Peas n’ Grits & Cole Slaw or Hot Cross Bun.

The regatta committee’s main objective is to keep the legacy of sloop sailing alive for generations to come. We must preserve this rich legacy of sloop sailing and find innovative ways to keep our youth engaged in this sport and bring more women to the forefront. For far to long women have sat on the sidelines and watch the races but there are handful of young women who are loving the sport and giving their male counter parts a run for their money.

Chairman Campbell and her team needs your support. Please help keep the Grand Bahama Regatta alive and well!
