Freeport, Bahamas  - The Grand Bahama Sailing Club (GBSC) welcomed almost 100 guests to the successful Curry Night on Friday, dozens of international curries were served and enjoyed by all and the fundraising event has provided two scholarship places for children for the forthcoming Summer Sailing Adventure Camp.

The fun, foody night provided curry lovers with a chance to sample some of the finest on offer.  Many enjoyed the unexpected and flaming hot entertainment provided by Lady Lollipop and McDaddy Midget.  Recipes were exchanged and GBSC was delighted to see so many wonderful people show up.  The winners, Harpreet Kubal and Sue McCrea, received vouchers from Garden Delite, Banana Bay, Pisces and Sabor Restaurants, a bottle of Prosecco and a Family Fun Day at Ocean Motion Watersports.

This event marks the GBSC start of the Summer Programme and people are encouraged to sign up their children for the Camps they would like them to attend.  Additionally, whilst more scholarship places are still needed, this event and the sponsorship received so far, enable the Club to provide full and partial scholarships for many children.  Children will be able to spend two weeks learning the sport of sailing and form new friendships. This year, an adventure component has been added which promises extra fun for all the campers.

Additionally, the seven Senior Instructors are all making the preparations necessary to make this summer the best ever for all involved.  They will be assisted by the teens who pass the Junior Instructor Boot Camp (JIB) which runs 15th through 19th June.  On JIB, twenty teens, will be put through their paces and taught boat handling, maintenance, safety, boat repair and how to take care of others.  A high level of discipline and grit is required and GBSC will be using this course as foundation to train future Senior Instructors.  Those who pass will spend the summer with GBSC.  Beyond the summer, GBSC is hoping to build up the teenage sailing and social section of the Club and is looking to take a big team to the National Regatta held in Abaco, 2nd to 4th October.

The first Summer Adventure Camp begins on 22nd June and has a few places still open.  Camp 2 begins 6th July.  Camp 3 begins on 20th July.  The last Camp starts on 3rd August.  People are urged to contact the Club if they would like their children to take part.  Full and partial scholarships can be requested and it is the dream that no child, that wants to learn, is turned away.  Children, aged from 5 to 17, must be able to swim to take part.  A Tadpoles option is available to little children and the camps work in conjunction with the Danny Rigby Tennis Camp.

Additionally, this summer GBSC has a complete social events series with something for everyone. GBSC welcomes non-sailors who would like to enjoy the ambience to take note of the dates.  The Sculling Gullywash Night is on 26th June.  GBSC will host a Kids’ Fun Sleepover and a Pirate Treasure Hunt, both especially for kids, on 3rd and 10th July respectively.  The GBSC “Kings of the Grill” will host a BBQ cook off on the GB Regatta weekend of 17th and 18th July and a Beer Pong Tournament on 24th July for over 18s exclusively.  On 31st July, a fully chaperoned, All Black Light Night for Teens, with no adult guests or alcohol, but a great DJ, will take place.  On August 7th, a Chili Night for food lovers, in a family orientated environment, will be open to all and the Summer Programme will close with an Ice Cream Social on 14th August.

GBSC thanks all the sponsors, volunteers and members for their support.  These people help the Club to help others and have a good time doing it.  We are still looking for more companies and individuals, who would like to sponsor a child.  If anyone would like to be a part of this programme, we would be extremely grateful.
