Hutchison Port Holdings Scholarship Grants

Freeport, Grand Bahama - Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), Bahamas Business Unit, Freeport Container Port (FCP), Freeport Harbour Company (FHC), and Grand Bahama Airport Company (GBAC), continued their scholarship assistance programme with the presentation of Grants to fourteen Bahamian students to help them complete their educational pursuits.

Raymond Jones, COO for FCP, FHC, and GBAC made the presentation of cheques totaling $42,000 in Grants and congratulated the recipients and their parents as he encouraged the students to apply themselves in their studies. On hand were Godfrey Smith, Port Director, Freeport Container Port, and Sherry Rodgers, FCP Corporate Affairs Manager.

Four Grants were given to students who will study at home, three to attend the College of The Bahamas, namely, Marika Williams - Law and Criminal Science; Bradley McDonald - Mechanical Engineering, and Lateishea Cooper - Business Administration. Leonette Gardiner received a Grant to study Business Administration at Success Training College.

Grants for overseas institutions were awarded to Grevie Neymour - Accounting, and Kristina Deveaux - Biology, studying at Georgia Southern University; Jasmine McGregor - Information Technology, and Chadwick Laing - Airway Science, studying at Florida Memorial University; Kristina A. James – H.R. Management at Keiser College; Javon Edgecombe – Medicine at Penn State University; Roman Laing – Marine Transportation at State University of New York Maritime; Scottia Miller – Biology at the University of Kentucky; Jonathan Glinton – Architecture/Civil Engineering at Bethune Cookman College; and Julian Gibson – Electronic & Computer Technology at DeVry University.

Over the past 11 years, HPH business Units have assisted with this scholarship programme which is designed to assist children of employees and others presently attending the College of The Bahamas and institutions aboard.

Scholarships are issued to students attending accredited colleges and universities overseas who have a minimum GPA of 3.0, as well as to students attending the College of The Bahamas with a minimum GPA of 2.5. All students must demonstrate a need for assistance to complete their studies, and submissions must be made at least three months prior to the semester start date.

All donations granted are for the specific school year, and students receiving a donation must reapply on an annual basis for further consideration.
