BAHAMIANS CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE – Ginger Moxey, Vice President, The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited, and husband Creighton, were among many enjoying Independence festivities at the Port Lucaya Marketplace.

Freeport, Bahamas –  A bevy of Bahamian divas thrilled audiences in Count Basie Square as The Port Lucaya Marketplace (PLM) partnered with Burns House Group of Companies to host a ‘Bahamian Divas Kalik Independence Concert’ during the holiday weekend.

Headlining the show was T’rez Hepburn who belted out such favorites as ‘Mr. Bus Driver’, ‘All Up In My Business’ and ‘U Gon Talk It’.  Her compatriots, Racquel Oliver, Nita, Sonovia “Novie” Pierre and Veronica Bishop, completed the lineup of popular female singers.

BAHAMIAN SUPERSTAR – T’rez Hepburn was the headline act during an Independence concert in Port Lucaya’s Count Basie Square.

“We were more than thrilled to have all of these ladies participate,” said Karen Ferguson-Bain, Entertainment & Marketing Coordinator-PLM.  “To attract entertainers of this magnitude and have them appear in Count Basie Square was an honor. It’s always a privilege to be able to showcase native talent to the Bahamian public and visitors to our shores.”

Ferguson-Bain also expressed appreciation to the Burns House Group of Companies for partnering with PLM and promoting ‘Kalik’, a brand synonymous with everything Bahamian throughout The Bahamas.

Opening the evening was the Deep South Island Boyz who warmed up the crowd and led the way with several favorite Bahamian tunes. The talented Port Lucaya Dancers were crowd-pleasers, along with Miss Grand Bahama, Tempest Stubbs, and former Miss Bahamas, Mikala Moss, who mingled with bright-eyed, eager children in the Square.

‘WOMEN RULE’ – was Veronica Bishop’s signature song as she empowered her female counterparts attending the ‘Bahamian Divas Kalik Independence Concert’ at Port Lucaya Marketplace.

The significance of the evening’s event was highlighted by a brief video presentation featuring historical footage from original Independence celebrations in 1973.  Nostalgia flooded the air as two jumbo screens sent the audience back in time to witness as the then premier, Sir Lynden Oscar Pindling, welcomed Prince Charles to The Bahamas and successive proceedings on Clifford Park in New Providence.

Just as in the video, the patriotic audience gathered at Port Lucaya raised their voices in the singing of the country’s National Anthem, followed by fireworks. The evening of family-fun in recognition of our nation’s 37th Anniversary of Independence fittingly concluded with a junkanoo performance by the Pinder’s Point Junkanoo band.
