
Grand Bahama Island Junkanoo Groups, totaling eight, accepted cheque donations from The Grand Bahama Port Authority Limited, to assist with the 2012 New Year’s Day Junkanoo parade. The
Grand Bahama Port Authority Limited (GBPA) chose again to support the
passion and the spirit of Bahamian culture, expressed
in the form of Junkanoo. As such, the leaders of eight Grand Bahama
Island Junkanoo Groups accepted cheque donations from GBPA, to assist
with the 2012 New Year’s Day Junkanoo Parade.
Vice
President of The Grand Bahama Port Authority Limited, Mrs. Ginger
Moxey, presented cheques to each Junkanoo Group leader. “We applaud the
efforts of every Junkanoo Group and understand that close to all of
your financing comes from corporate sponsorship. The New Year’s Day
Junkanoo Parade brings us all together, in our traditional fun way to
celebrate the New Year in the spirit of family and
community,” expressed Moxey.
Junkaoo
Groups who received cheques are: Arawak Invaders, Bayshore Warriors,
Classic Dancers, Grand Bahama Harbour Boys, Kingdom Culture, Majestic
Crusaders, Superstar Rockers and Swingers. The Grand Bahama Port
Authority Limited would like to encourage other corporate leaders to
join them in keeping the tradition of Junkanoo alive on Grand Bahama
Island.
