KEEP GRAND BAHAMA CLEAN CELEBRATES 8 YEARS: Members and friends worship at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, marking the first event for the month long 8th anniversary celebration.

Freeport, Grand Bahama – Keep Grand Bahama Clean, launched in 2006, celebrates eight successful years of environmental initiatives. The October 2014 Anniversary began with members and friends worshipping together at a Sunday morning church service held at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, serving as the kickoff event for month long activities.
“It’s truly a blessing to celebrate the 8th Anniversary of this Keep Grand Bahama Clean initiative,” shares Nakira Wilchombe, GBPA Environmental Manager. “The anniversary highlights the commitment of the committee and its supporters, whose primary goal is to engage residents of this island in environmental initiatives that serve as constant reminders that keeping our island clean should be a way of life for all residents,” says Wilchcombe.
October calendar activities include: Special visit to the students of Maurice Moore Primary school on the 29th of September, Talkin’ Trash news segment on Love 97, literature distribution will take place on Coral Road and East Sunrise highway on the 15th of the month, an island wide initiative where all individuals, clubs and organizations are encouraged to be involved will take place on the 25th of the month. KGBC invites all who wish to be involved to join the committee and therefore volunteer sign ups will take place on the 24th and on the 31st, both will take place from noon to 2pm and the latter will serve as the closing event for the anniversary month. Wilchcombe reminds us that KGBC’s purpose is to educate all on the importance of, “refraining from casual littering, indiscriminate dumping and to know that it’s everyone’s job, it’s everyone’s responsibility to adhere to these environmental duties.” Wilchcombe assures us that, “If we all play our part, we can certainly see a cleaner Grand Bahama and this is what we want to encourage for all residents and for our future generations.”
All are invited to get involved in the month’s activities and become a part of the Keep Grand Bahama Clean initiative, because it’s everyone’s business and everyone’s responsibility: our lifestyles, our economy and our future depend on it!
