Freeport, Grand Bahama - The
Grand Bahama Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc recently
attended the Southern Region Florida and The Bahamas State Cluster on February
17-19, 2012, under the theme
“Reclaim, Retrain and Retain”. The Cluster with over 800 sorors in attendance was
hosted by the Dade County Alumnae Chapter and was held at the Hyatt Regency
Bonaventure Conference Center & Spa in Weston, Florida. The workshops were
informative, enlightening and engaging. Our very own Chapter President &
Bahamas Social Action Coordinator Shery Poitier also facilitated workshops
during the cluster on Social Action.
In the spirit of the 22 Illustrious
Founders and focusing on the Sorority’s motto of being “called to serve and
impacting communities,” the members of the local chapter host programs such as
the Domestic Violence Essay competition for high school students- to give
students an opportunity to address this “silent killer” in our community,
Diabetes Community Health Fair- to help educate the community about the disease
that is ravaging our Bahamaland, and Reach for the Stars - a program that
focuses on the most improved sixth grade student in each of Grand Bahama’s
primary schools. The chapter also initiates school supplies and uniform
donations to numerous local schools, Social Services and individual students.

Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc is the largest predominantly black sorority in the
