Eight Miss Grand Bahama 2014 Contestants Unveiled

20 year old Alexus Brown grew up in Hanna Hill in Eight Mile Rock and completed high school there before attending the Caribbean Nazarene College of Trinidad and Tobago where she is studying religion. In college she played on the netball team. A member of Refuge Temple Evangelistic of Churches International, she serves as an usher, and a Sunday School teacher. Alexus enjoys trying different foods, and listening to music with gospel, R&B and soul among her favorites. With her special love for children, one of her goals is to positively impact the lives of children and by extension help shape the society of tomorrow. Her infectious smile will continue to warm the hearts of all those she interacts with. Alexus is sponsored by All The Way Building Construction

Eight hopeful young beauties vying for the title of Miss Grand Bahama 2014-2015 were officially unveiled during an evening event held on June 22nd at Le Chateau on the Green. This year's contestants are Sade Colebrook, Danielle Pratt, Alexus Brown, Odell King, Lagina Russell, Andrea Rahming,  Phylicia Collie, and Crystal Lightbourne.

The evening was a night of elegance thanks to Mrs. Jennifer Williams owner of Le Chateau On The Green, a proud sponsor for this event and upcoming pageant events.  The contestants opened the event wearing cocktail dresses by Fay Rolle. They also modeled beautiful jewelry designed by Veronica Ellis- Empress. The show was MC'd by Miss Grand Bahama's official hostess April Gow, and music was provided by CC Campbell.

Family and friends came out to show support to the young ladies, and the audience was elated to how well Miss Grand Bahama 2014 contestants  presented themselves.  West End and Eight Mile Rock were very well represented this year with several of the contestants from those areas.

With the mission of transforming “our young women into true ambassadors for our country," The Miss Grand Bahama Organization is dedicated to grooming young women of Grand Bahama into purpose-driven, community-minded, beautiful young ladies.
           

The young ladies have already gone through speech training conducted by
Bahamas Youth Ambassador, Ashleigh Rolle, and there are more workshops and training sessions coming up in the days ahead.

"Our new queen should be a young lady who is very mature, intelligent, confident,  and someone who is  easy to work with, and shows gratitude. Most importantly one who wants to give back to the her  community,” said Glenn Davis, Miss Grand Bahama Beauty Pageant Organization Director. "We also want our contestants to enjoy and grow through this experience."

17 year old Sade Colebrook is a graduate of Sunland Baptist Academy. She came first runner up in the 2012 Miss Talented Grand Bahama. With a passion for the marine life and theatre, her hobbies include singing, dancing and painting. "I love traveling and experiencing new cultures, exotic foods, and meeting new people." Sade considers herself a huge Tim Burton fan and an anime nerd. She said she's struggled with self esteem issues until she realized that, "I am who I am and I love it!" and she wants to inspire other girls to believe this also. Sade has been a volunteer at the YMCA and ICAN camp and the Humane Society. She aspires to obtain her Bachelors in Performing Arts and a Masters in Business Management in Graphic Design. She also dreams of opening the first Performing Arts Academy in Freeport offering classes that connect to our African roots, ultimately encouraging youth to appreciate their culture. Sade is sponsored by Exquisite Collection


Qualifications sought in the ideal candidate are as follows:

1. Must be beautiful on the inside and out.

2. Must be at all times, courteous and polite.

3. Must be pleasant in personality and engaging with the public wherever she goes.

4. Must project confidence in her ability as an ambassador.

5. Must at all times take pride in her overall appearance.

6. Miss Grand Bahama must always be prepared.

June 28: Miss Grand Bahama 2014 Top Model & Talent Competition, Le Chateau on the Green, 8pm, Le Chateau on the Green

July 12: Miss Grand Bahama 2014 Evening Gown & Swimsuit Competition,  8pm
, Le Chateau on the Green.  Admission $10.00

July 19: Float Parade, starting at 5pm at YMCA and finishing at Bell Channel with the National Costume Competition, 8pm. Admission $5.00

July 27: Miss Grand Bahama 2014 Beauty Pageant, 9pm. Tickets for general seating $25.00 and VIP $40.00 which includes wine.

16 year old Odell King is a high school student from Eight Mile Rock. "I was raised by my grandmother Lola King because my parents currently reside in Abaco working to support me." Odell is an avid basketball, soccer and volleyball player who hopes to someday become a cosmetologist. After graduating high school she wants to continue her education in order to achieve this goal. "I love to dance and sing but I can be shy at times, and I hope through this pageant I will be able to become more confident in myself." Odell is sponsored by Lys Shoe & Clothing

18 year old Danielle Pratt is a graduate of Bishop Michael Eldon School in Freeport and is currently a student at The College of The Bahamas, Freeport Campus, and is pursuing a degree in Business Marketing in hopes to become a Graphic Designer with a career in Marketing and Advertising. During high school Danielle was very active in track, softball, basketball, cheerleading and Junior Junkanoo. Outside of school she was a member of Junior Achievement, The Governor General’s Youth Award program, Technical Cadet and a participant in The Yellow Elder ITC Club #2828, and the 2013 Debutante Ball. Her other interests include dancing, singing, cooking, and volunteering at the Grand Bahama Children’s Home. Danielle's an active member of Freeport Bible Church involved in their Dance and Children’s Ministries. She is sponsored by DAPS Business Services

18 year old Andrea Rahming is a BTVI student studying Welding. She enjoys dancing, singing, cooking, writing and listening to music. "I have always been told that I am a happy person with a caring attitude, but I have faced challenges in my short life such as not having access to three meals every day, but I have persevered and worked hard to change my circumstance. I am the type of person who will give my last dollar to assist someone in need, something I learned to do through my life experiences." Andrea says those experiences have adapted her to be a creative person who can remake regular everyday things into something new and different. Her dream is to become a cardiologist and is currently working at a clinic in hopes to someday go to school to get the degree needed. Andrea is sponsored by Carico Medical Centre and Porch Bar 'n Grill

18 year old Phylicia Collie is a graduate of Sunland Baptist Academy and is a full time student at the College of the Bahamas and plans to be a Certified Public Accountant. She also has a passion for cooking, and plans to one day have a restaurant of her own. "I am loving, caring, humble, selfless, beautiful and confident, but my beauty does not define who I am or what I stand for; whereas my character speaks for itself." Phylicia enjoys modeling, fashion, makeup artistry, singing, dancing, and dressing her sisters. "My confidence in myself comes from the meaning of my name, where Phylicia means prosperity, so every time my name is called I know and believe that I am prospering." Phylicia is sponsored by Beauti'Licious

20 year old Crystal Lightbourne is completing her office administration studies at B.T.V.I. with plans to be a professional photographer and graphic designer, representing Sharp Shots Photography since 2011. With a passion for pageantry she was awarded for participation, speech, and being photogenic in the Miss Talented Bahamas International Top Model. She's involved in Orion Pathfinders band, and Pathfinders Club and has volunteered at The Children’s Home, Rand Memorial Hospital Pediatrics, and their Pharmacy. Her other talents are in singing, dancing, and she's trying to perfect her keyboard playing. Crystal says her mom is her greatest motivation. Crystal is sponsored by Mr. D' Riaen Collie

16 year old Lagina Russell lives in west Grand Bahama and attends Eight Mile Rock High School, where she is in the 10th grade. "I love to read and play sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, and softball," said the 6' 5" beauty who also said she's had her braces almost 2 years now. Lagina said her favorite color is yellow and she's a fan of taking pictures. She would like to be either a police detective or a fashion designer one day. Lagina is sponsored by Joleeka's Motel
