Freeport, Bahamas -
Bahamas Faith Ministries International
Freeport made history Sunday, February 12, 2012 when over 500 people converged
at the North Diplomat Center at Sea Horse Shopping Center to attend the
ministry's first Kingdom Common-wealth Day and national Love Fest
celebration.
"In keeping with seasonal focus on
Love during this special month of Valentine", Bahamas Faith Ministries
International under the leadership of Dr. Myles Munroe introduced two major
events to the community -
Kingdom Common-wealth Day and national Love Fest
.
"The
response was overwhelming", said Associate Pastor John Malcolm who led the
local fellowship in the planning and implementation of
Common-Wealth Day.
Love Fest
led
by Hospitality Ministers Dwight and Karen Seymour and a team of committed
workers made it possible for over 500 people--members, followers, families,
friends, and passers- by who saw the crowds and curiously
stopped to be fed a smorgasbord of scrupulous foods and desserts free
of charge and without any qualifications. "one woman and her
children who were passers-by stopped and happily joined in the food line.
She commented as she and her children walked through getting their plates
filled, 'You all are going to be blessed. I didn't have any food at home
for my family today". It was like the "Feeding of the
5000," because the food never ran out and everybody was served with
some left over.

"Arriving in due course of the
ministry's
2012
theme: Kingdom Commonwealth Economy, and during
a time of rising unemployment situations, expanding poverty, and hardship experienced
by thousands of Bahamians as a result of the Global Economic Crisis, Bahamas
Faith Ministries International Freeport and Nassau, (One Church
in two locations), wanted to demonstrate the reality that the Church as a
community can alleviate much of the stress, lack, and frustration among its
members and their extended families by providing a
common sharing of our material, goods, monies and food stuff with those who are running on hard times
now, said BFMI Chairman/President Dr. Myles Munroe.
Kingdom Commonwealth Day
was a day set aside with the idea of making the wealth
common in order to meet the needs of individuals in the church and
their extended families. Members of BFM were asked to bring from
their homes anything that they wanted to share and give away to others who may
have need for these items. Associate Pastor John Malcolm initiated a
system whereby members could list 5 immediate needs in
chronological order, and as the items came in, the first most immediate
need was granted to that person or family. Others who came in
on Commonwealth Day also had an opportunity to get their most immediate
needs met, as they were allowed to shop in their need areas first.
Items were organized in categories of clothing apparel and accessories, bedding,
furnishings, technology, toys, food, books, china,
pots, and appliances. There was something for everyone!
Many of the items were brand new or in almost brand new condition.
The "
Spirit
of Giving" became contagious with many local
businesses becoming participants as well.

One family, who 1 month earlier was
experiencing difficulty with the building of their new home, had their prayers
answered for the furnishing of a bathroom, when they received a brand
new bath vanity sink and pedastal set and matching bath
shower/faucet fixtures.
3 little girls between the ages of 5 and
6 excitedly shared with one another the toys, shoes, and books they had
gotten. Another young child came through the line to shop, and all she
wanted was to shop for a filled grocery bag of food, as she said,
"We need food". Then, there were elderly persons walking with
canes who were assisted and only wanted to shop for food.
"As one of our members remarked, we have begun Kingdom BFM Mart,
where everything is on sale for free!
This is a practical response to the
economic struggles of many, and it bought hope and joy to hundreds this
past Sunday. Everything was done in amazing order, love, unity, and
excellence! Minister Larry Russell and Dr. Havard Cooper, leaders in the Freeport fellowship
commented, "We were overwhelmed by the response of our Freeport BFM
Family, and how they gave and worked so freely. This is what Kingdom
Ministry is all about, and we are on a path to changing Grand
Bahama".
Over seventeen other churches around America, Africa and as far away as London also joined in the Kingdom Common-Wealth Day
Celebration
along with Bahamas Faith Ministries.
Bahamas Faith Ministries intend to
celebrate this community event three more times this year and encourage their
members and other concerned corporate citizens to bring items to give to meet
the needs of others in our community who are struggling with unemployment,
stress, national depression, and despondency.
