Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - February 20th, 2018, The Bahamas Federation of Performing Arts (BFPA) held it's first event, a Legal Roundtable on Copyrights, Patents and Trademarks. The roundtable drew a wide range of support from a broad cross-section of artisans on the island. Attorney Jacy Whitaker, the Director of Legal Affairs for BFPA was the presenter of this informative interactive discussion that took place at Mackey Media Ltd on Retail Street at Grand Lucayan.

Attendees learned the procedures involved in Copyrighting their creative works, protecting their trademarks and what's involved with patents. Additionally, artisans learned the pitfalls of what can happen and has happened to those who do not and did not protect their creative works. In attendance were book authors, poets, songwriters, playwrights, promoters, businesspersons, musicians, artists and students.

Whitaker had this to say about creative works, "When people put their heart and soul into what they do, good work gets produced. And with a little legal advice and insight, that good work gets protected. Helping people understand how information can work for them is really important to us."

BFPA President Liselle Harris expressed her excitement over the great attendance at the Legal Roundtable which was promoted strictly through Social Media and TheBahamasWeekly.com. Stating that, "This is just the first of many such events."
