Freeport, Grand Bahama – On July 27th, 2016, the 12-week Culinary Management Institute Partnership program between Pelican Bay hotel and College of The Bahamas came to a close. The students assigned to Pelican Bay were: Ashanti Williams majoring in Hospitality management, Tourism and Hospitality major Robin Major and Marketing major Vania Hamilton, who got the opportunity to work in all departments at the boutique hotel, including security, front office, food and beverage, front of house, back of house, front desk, reservations, housekeeping and more.

Pelican Bay operations manager Della Bridgewater took a personal interest in the students saying, “I know what it is to be an intern. I graduated from FIU and interned at Pelican Bay and I’ve been through the ranks. I’ve been through different departments and have made it to operations manager of the hotel. It’s really good to see these young ladies aspiring to excel in the hotel industry.”

“Pelican Bay was my first choice, because with larger hotels, you wouldn’t get to see managers often," said student intern Ashanti Williams.  "At Pelican Bay I was able interact with upper level management on a daily basis."

Robyn Major said, “This experience has been one that I will definitely not forget, seeing that this is an independent hotel we got to actually interact with guests and with management and put our theory learned in school into practice.”

“My experience at Pelican Bay was well beyond what I expected it to be," said Vania Hamilton. "I enjoyed it and it was a great learning experience. I’m glad that I came here.”

In appreciation of the good job by the interns, Pelican Bay Hotel held a farewell party.
