Freeport, Bahamas – Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and staff of the Grand Bahama Shipyard (GBS) recently donated much needed breakfast foods to the Grand Bahama Children’s Home. Last month, the staff at GBS joined the ‘Breakfast Club’ in which supporters pledge to donate $5 each month to help provide breakfast for children at the Home.

Ed Pavey, Director of Technical, Planning and IT at GBS said, “When I first received the call for help from Christine Van Der Linde for immediate assistance to the Children’s Home last month, it was with great pleasure that I donated to the cause. Afterwards, Christine came up with the idea of the ‘Breakfast Club’ which she implemented at her office. I thought it was such a fantastic idea that I asked my employees if they wanted to join. Again, to my pleasure, they instantly offered their pledge of support each month and for many more to come.”

With donations from the employees in the Shipyard’s Technical Department goods were purchased from BWA Wholesale and presented to the Home last week. Pavey noted, “Shelia and her staff do such a wonderful job caring for the children and we are so very proud to be a small part of the necessary assistance required to operate such a fine facility.”

The Grand Bahama Shipyard supports a number of charities in Grand Bahama and the management team is incredibly pleased that their staff have chosen to make personal donations. “As a company, we’re very interested in supporting a number of charities and organizations in the community. We are very pleased that our

staff, through their own initiative, decided to support the Home,” said Kay Smith, Director of Human Resources and Community Relations at GBS.

If you’re interested in starting a Breakfast Club programme at your company, contact the Grand Bahama Children’s Home at 352-7852 or on their website via http://www.gbchildrenshome.com/contact/. All donations are always welcome as the home cares for the neglected and abused children of Grand Bahama. With 50% of its funding from Government the balance is raised from the community.
