As October is National Youth Month here in The Bahamas as well as Toastmasters Month, The Ministry of Youth, Grand Bahama and Area 93Toastmasters are once again partnering in helping to develop the Public Speaking skills of our nation’s youth. The competition is being held in honor of the late TM Oslie Delancy. TM Oslie Delancy, who was affectionately called “Mama Rose”, was the oldest member in the history of Toastmasters Club 1425, Freeport Eagles, having been inducted as a member in 2005 at the age of 65. Her tenure with the club was short lived as approximately three months after joining she was killed in a fatal traffic accident. TM Deborah Pratt, coordinator of the competition said, “During her short time with us, TM Delancy greatly impacted the members of Freeport Eagles, Toastmasters Club 1425! We were all inspired by her determination to develop her communications and leadership skills at her age. She shared many words of wisdom with us.” TM Pratt concluded by saying, “It is our desire to continue her legacy by hosting this speech competition annually.” The competition is being held under the theme for this year’s National Youth Month, “Celebrating Youth, The Journey Continues”. Six contestants, representing six local high schools, will all be speaking on this theme. Mrs. Carla Brown-Roker, Programs Coordinator at the Ministry of Youth, Grand Bahama and Mr. Jethro Dixon, Toastmasters Area 93 Governor, are extending an invitation to the general public to come out and support our nation’s youth!
