Grand Bahama Island - Dave Mackey, webmaster/administrator of The Bahamas Weekly presented a check to the Grand Bahama Heritage Foundation in the amount of $500 on May 27th, 2009.

The funds were raised from the Bahamas premier screening of Jeffrey Poitier's documentary Voices... which was presented on April 25th in Freeport.

This presentation would not have been made possible without the generous support of the sponsors Ministry of Tourism, Ross University, and Pelican Bay Hotel, and all those that supported the event. Special thanks also goes to Bahamian Brewery and Beverage, Film Commissioner Craig Woods, Bahamas Ambassador to Washington Cornelius A. Smith, Dianne Johnson, Freeport Advertising and Printing, Coldwell Banker James Sarles Realty, Susan Missick Events, Bahamian Brewery and Beverage, Chantal Bethel, Methice Rigby, Brice Limo Service, Agave Restaurant, Sabor Restaurant, Emerald Isle Café, Island Java, Italian Specialty Imports, La Belle Salon, Le Med Restaurant, and Mary Star of the Sea School.

"We sincerely appreciate this gesture which  recognizes the important role that Art can play in the telling of our island's heritage.  This donation will support our Freetown Heritage Project, which is collecting the oral history of Freetown's residents through the making of Fiber Art.  This exhibit will be unveiled to the community of Grand Bahama later this year and will be the first of many projects using Art as a window into our past", said members of the Heritage Foundation.

On hand for the check presentation was Chantal Bethel and Laurie Tuchel, Co-Founders of the Foundation.

Another portion of the documentary Voices... which are a series of interviews of Bahamian residents of Coconut Grove, Florida will be screened at the upcoming South Miami Film Festival this summer.
