Grand Bahama, Bahamas – The Underwater Explorers Society (UNEXSO): The Dolphin Experience in Grand Bahama is excited to learn they were selected to host a two-day workshop in conjunction with the International Marine Animal Trainers Association (IMATA) in Freeport. The conference will take place March 17th and 18th, 2012, and will focus on “Dolphin Interactive Training” and “The benefits of Open Ocean Training & Straight-line Swimming” according to their website www.imata.org.
IMATA was founded in 1972 to foster communication, professionalism, and cooperation among those who serve marine mammal science through training, public display, research, husbandry, conservation, and education. The annual Regional Workshop will bring dedicated international trainers to the Dolphin Experience in Grand Bahama, which is one of only three facilities where Open Ocean Training is performed worldwide.
According to Robert W. Eiser, Operations Manager: The Dolphin Experience hosting the IMATA Regional Workshop came about through hard work and dedication by management and staff. Not every applicant is selected to host this annual event, we are extremely proud of this accomplishment; Grand Bahamians can be too.”
Attendees will have the opportunity to spend time visiting The Dolphin Experience training facilities and participate in open ocean training sessions. “Training is what the workshop is all about,” noted Eiser. “The sharing of knowledge is the key to success in our field”. From a professional standpoint IMATA provides opportunities through which marine animal trainers can exchange and disseminate current knowledge and the latest research.”
Meetings will be held at The Dolphin Experience and all 14 employees will attend. “The workshops will be immense for our training staff, they can show off their unique training talents and also gain exposure in the international community of mammal trainers,” said Eiser.
The Dolphin Experience has a healthy collection of dolphins (Atlantic Bottlenose Tursiops truncatus), consisting of 6 adult males, 5 adult females and 2 juveniles. Located in a 9 acre lagoon, The Dolphin Experience is one of the most popular tourist destinations while visiting Grand Bahama and is open 7 days a week offering dolphin swims, dolphin encounters, open ocean dolphin swims and assistant trainer programs.
