Local Bikers Rev Up for the Beacon School

Freeport, Grand Bahama –Despite their menacing appearance the Scurvy Few Motorcycle Club (SFMC) are all about giving back to their local communities. The Grand Bahama branch of bikers is hosting their first “Biker’s Night” at Red Beard’s Pub this Saturday, February 11^th, to raise funds for the Beacon School.

“We arethankful to Mrs. Sheryl Woods, Principal of the Beacon School, for allowing us to meet her kids and have this event to raise funds for the school,” said Lloyd Cheong, President SFMC Grand Bahama. “We visited the kids last week and they were fantastic and really took to the motorcycles. Road Traffic Department on Grand Bahama presents awards‏

Freeport, Grand Bahama - Long serving member of the Road Traffic Department on Grand Bahama, Mr Wellington Sears was presented with a plaque of appreciation by Deputy Controller Basil V Rahming upon his recent retirement following completion of forty-five years of service. Mr Sears was second-in-charge at the Vehicle Inspection Centre. Mr Sears was presented with his plaque on 1st February 2012, following a brief social. A formal retirement party will be held in June.

A two-day in-house workshop for the eleven selected young staff members were held recently and conducted by Mrs Laurie Bullard, chief training officer at the Deptartment of Public Service on Grand Bahama. The purpose of the training was to enhance their customer service skills and to instill in them the importance of personal integrity in the daily performance of their duties...

Key presenters slated for upcoming Tourism Opportunity Seminar

Freeport, Bahamas – “A 29% increase in cruise passengers to Grand Bahama is projected for this year. Through the upcoming ‘Opportunity, Awareness & Training Seminar’, The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA) and partners hope to educate the public on the increased business opportunities that can be realized as a result of the increase in cruise passengers to our island,” states GBPA President, Ian Rolle.

In an effort to boost Grand Bahama’s tourism product rankings, this one-day seminar is slated for February 9, in the Oleander Room at the Freeport Harbour. Mary Star's Spirit Week Parent Picnic with the Stingrays

Freeport, Grand Bahama - Mary, Star of the Catholic School’s campus was transformed into a picnic park for students to enjoy lunch with their parents and friends. An invitation was extended to Mary Star’s parents to partake in this communal event. The student body was divided into their four houses Brendan, Gantley, Groves and Leonard. Everyone got into the action by sporting their house colours (blue, yellow, green and red). Each house was allocated a portion of the campus to picnic on.

Not even in their dreams did the staff members imagine how well the turnout of parents would have been. Scores of parents dropped in to socialize with the mighty stingrays. Each house put a different spin on their picnic affair. There was a potluck meal, a pizza party, packed lunches and take out. Many brought enough to share with others...
