Freeport, Grand Bahama - Flying Fish Reopens for the fall season!

Back from a few weeks' vacation, Chef Tim has added some fantastic new dishes inspired by his travels.  Try the new seafood dish using many different seafood mixed with things from a visit to the beach!  Of course it's all edible and all delicious!

Flying Fish was also recently on display for the nations' food elite at the annual BFS Food Show at Atlantis on Paradise Island.  Chef Tim was asked to do a demo of the unique and creative food and techniques from Flying Fish to over 1000 guests of the food show.  It went extremely well with the hosts being very pleased with the reception to Chef Tim's culinary tricks.

In keeping with Flying Fish's mission of partnering and promoting quality Bahamian products, we are proud to announce our upcoming partnership with John Watling's Distillery in Nassau.  Coming up on November 9th, Flying Fish and John Watling's will present modernist cocktails at the Meeting of Minds II Culinary Fusion Expo at Pelican Bay Hotel, presented by Move Marketing.  We are very excited about using these amazing Bahamian spirits in our "molecular" cocktails for the event.

Chef Tim has been invited to be a guest speaker and do a cooking demonstration at the 2014 Minority Chef Summit in Nassau Bahamas on January 18th-23rd.  This summit held every year in a different location aims to bring together chefs and food service workers from around the world and different ethnicities together under one roof to exchange ideas and information to help push food and business forward.  The summit will also feature chefs including Top Chef's Tiffany Derry, Food Network's Jeff Henderson of The Chef Jeff Project, Top Chef Just Dessert's Erika Davis and Iron Chef competitor Wayne Johnson along with many others.  Chef Tim is very honored and humbled by the committee of the summit for asking him to be a part of such a large chef gathering.  If you'd like to learn more or to attend the summit please visit www.minoritychefsummit.com for more information.

Coming up at the end of November, Flying Fish resumes its Education Series Every week the team at Flying Fish will offer a different theme; cooking classes, wine education, Q&A sessions with experts along with the once a month supper club events that were such a big hit last year.  We will be releasing the class list very shortly on both our website and on our facebook page. The education series will be moving to Monday nights this year.

As always, Flying Fish tries to be a front runner in promoting youth education in the hospitality field.  As part of that commitment, Flying Fish has partnered with Barefoot Marketing, Bahamas Food Services, Bristol Wines and Spirits and The Bahamas National Trust for their annual event "Festival Noel".  The Festival which is slated for Friday, December 6th is always the place to socialize with art, music, food and wine.  This year, as the first restaurant involved for many years, Flying Fish will be spearheading a mentoring program in which each food vendor will be required to take on at least one student apprentice in order to be involved.  Junior cooks from local high schools will join seasoned cooks at the booth to serve their wares and meet local guests.  We hope to continue this idea in the future as part of our commitment to education.

Sundays are Casual Sundays at Flying Fish! Due to popular demand, Casual Sundays will be continuing all winter long. Every Sunday evening Chef Tim changes his Chef jacket for a guitar and a microphone.  In his past life, Chef Tim was the Toronto Independent Musician Of The Year in 2006.  He picks up the guitar once again but this time just to have fun and enjoy the casual Sunday vibes.  A large expanded bar menu accompanies the evening featuring classics like the Flying Fish hand-ground Burger and the in house smoked bacon BLT and now also offering a sushi menu.  Come check out Sunday nights.  Patio opens at 5pm with music beginning at 6pm.

Finally, Flying Fish is pleased to welcome Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts latest venture "Memories Grand Bahama Beach Resort and Casino" to the neighborhood.  Under the direction of parent company SunWing, the Memories brand will flourish here on our beautiful island and we will do our part to treat your guests with the best food and service we can possibly provide.  Also, as Rebecca hails from Canada and Tim spent a large part of his life there, Flying Fish will be offering Canadian visitors to the island some very special deals throughout the year.  Once again, a big Grand Bahama welcome to Sunwing and its guests.
